popular news for today image

This is a art assignment I have and was hoping to get some help in getting some ideas of what could describe our society now. I can only use pictures, no words in this assignment. Zeitgeist is german for spirit of the now, I need images that would give the viewer of these images an idea of the times we live in today. And I cannot do it on sports, anything else is fine though. So like whats popular in entertainment, the news, t.v., and music, and politics, things like that. So if anyone has any ideas for me please give some specific ideas of what kind of images I should look for. Thanks for the help! So what are your ideas?
Answer
I think an appropriate generalisation today is about globalisation. The differences between cultures and values are getting smaller, everything starts to become universal. This may change in the future, but now I guess this is the most common characteristic of the world.
-Economy: news, politics: events anywhere in the world influence the rest of us.
-Entertainment: American songs and movies are the most popular in the world.
...etc.

What effects did the hippie movement have on communication today?
For example, what effects did the movement have on the media? What about the free speech movement? How were mediums of communication effected?
Answer
underground newspapers began to form and the journalists created by them strived to find out about things that the mainstream media didn't really report on. it was from this hippie movement that woodward and bernstien got their "quest for the truth" that allowed them to break open the Watergate case. it was more of a mistrust of authority and a wanting to "shake things up"
in non news stuff, movies like "easy rider" and other movies of the time broke away from the formulatic Hollywood crap and had non mainstream characters and weren't the typical westerns, happy ending kind of stuff Hollywood usually turned out. the movies were much darker.
on tv, shows like "laugh-in" and "the smothers brothers" took a very counter culture approach to things with hippies as the writers and performers and they actually brought politics into their shows, something previously not done. the smothers brothers even got cancelled for political content.
go read about the movies and tv shows I mentioned and see what it says about them, that can help.
oh yeah, the music. the shows I mentioned and even ed Sullivan began playing more rock and roll from "hippie type" bands. shows like "the midnight hour" even showcased all the popular bands at the time.
