Do you read celebrity gossip?

RBT

do you read celebrity gossip?( online or in the rags)

BQ1: do you know most things they write are fabrications? and if yes, then why do you read them?
BQ2: do you agree that it's somewhat unfair to indulge in embarrassing info about people that may or may not be true?
the reason I ask is that I think some things written are pretty hurtful. I see all these headlines reagrding celebrities ,some are very ruthless. it's specially unfair when they write about celeb kids who are NOT shoved into the spoltlight by their parnets, and yet rags make headlines about them which is unfair and regardless of what you think about celebs they're still people.and their kids are not at fault for their parents' fame. I'm not talking about Z-listers who WANT to be in the rags,I'm talking about those who are decent enough and are basically people who are like us but have become famous.

Answer
I NEVER, ever read that tabloids. Nothing but lies!

Those newspapers sell because people WANT to believe what they are reading; which is always bad, bad, bad.

I do read Yahoo news - if the celebrity is Chole Moretz, I like to read about her. My favorite actress.

Why is the Boston Marathon Bombing getting so much news coverage and so memorable?

Adamismyna

I'm not at all trying to downplay the tragedy in Boston. What I am wondering though with regards to news coverage and details about it, "Why is it such a national tragedy" rather then a 1 or 2 day news story. In 1998 there was a school shooting in Oregon where 4 people were killed (2 in the suspect's home and 2 at the school) and it was tragic but a 2 day only news story. The Boston Marathon Tragedy is being covered more like the Oklahoma City Bombing or the Sandy Hook Shooting where many more lives were lost.
So what is it about the Boston Marathon Bombing that has made it such a news story and I presume an historic event that will be a "where were you when you heard about the Boston Marathon Bombing". When the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993 there was another major story two days later that got just as much coverage so even that was a two day news story even though there were updates. the Vanderbilt News Archive showed the Waco Shootout two days after the WTC Bombing got almost just as much coverage. Whereas the West Texas Explosion a day or two after the Boston Bombing got very little coverage due to the Boston Bombing.

Answer
The Boston Marathon is an international sporting event with international participation.
And international media coverage.
The US media knows the eyes of the world are on them to provide information.
That's why it's getting so much coverage.

What's your excuse for not knowing that?

When will the first day be that the news doesn't mention the Boston Marathon Bombing on the evening news?

Adamismyna

After the Sandy Hook Shooting Tragedy it was the 26th of December, 12 days later, when it was not mentioned on an evening news broadcast for the 1st time. With the Oklahoma City Bombing I found May 15th, 16 days later, as the first night a broadcast didn't mention it. The other two broadcasts did so May 21st (a month and two days later) was the first night it was completely out of the broadcast. With 9/11 I assume it was more then a year later. So when will the Boston Tragedy be out of the daily news on a given day? I am guessing not this week but next, wondered others opinions. Also, why is the War in Afghanistan not covered nightly anymore when our soldiers are still putting their lives on the line?
http://tvnews.vanderbilt.edu

Answer
N.Korea fires a missile. Will be the top news story.

Boston will be heard at lease a month, given the complexity of Russian influence.

It's a damn shame about our soldiers.I think the Flag should be flown at half-staff every time a solider is killed in combat. Not to desensitize the importance of the Flag, but as a somber reminder that we still have men and women dying.

Will Pope Francis be more gay-friendly?

Q. I do like him, I just hope he isn't so homophobic like the previous pope.
He has a nice presence about him, would like to offer him a hug.

Answer
Hah! No.

"Bergoglio affirms the Church's teaching that homosexual practice is intrinsically immoral but homosexuals should be treated with respect and love because temptation is not in and of itself sinful.[194][195] Bergoglio opposes same-sex marriage. When Argentina was considering legalizing it in 2010, Begoglio opposed the legislation,[196] calling it a "real and dire anthropological throwback".[197] In July 2010, while the law was under consideration, he wrote a letter to Argentina's cloistered nuns in which he said:[198][199][200]
In the coming weeks, the Argentine people will face a situation whose outcome can seriously harm the familyâ¦At stake is the identity and survival of the family: father, mother and children. At stake are the lives of many children who will be discriminated against in advance, and deprived of their human development given by a father and a mother and willed by God. At stake is the total rejection of God's law engraved in our hearts.
Let's not be naive: This is not a simple political fight; it is a destructive proposal to God's plan. This is not a mere legislative proposal (that's just its form), but a move by the father of lies that seeks to confuse and deceive the children of God⦠Let's look to St. Joseph, Mary, and the Child to ask fervently that they defend the Argentine family in this moment... May they support, defend, and accompany us in this war of God.
After L'Osservatore Romano reported this, several priests expressed their support for the law and one was defrocked.[201] Observers believe that the church's opposition and Bergoglio's language worked in favor of the law's passage and that in response Catholic officials adopted a more conciliatory tone in later debates on social issues such as parental surrogacy.[202][203]
Rubin, Bergoglio's biographer claimed that while taking a strong stand against same-sex marriage, Bergoglio raised the possibility in 2010 with his bishops in Argentina that they support the idea of civil unions as a compromise position.[204] According to a March 2013 article in the New York Times, "a majority of the bishops voted to overrule him".[204] However Miguel Woites, the director of the Catholic News Agency of Argentina, who works directly for the Argentine Episcopal Conference and as such worked closely with Bergoglio when he was head of the conference, denied that Bergoglio ever made such a proposal.[205]
According to gay rights activists in Buenos Aires, including Marcelo Marquez and Andres Albertsen, Bergoglio also spoke "behind closed doors" with them about his support for the spiritual needs of "homosexual people," and his willingness to support progress in the form of "measured actions".[204][206] According to news reports "a senior Vatican official" could "neither confirm nor deny" reports of Bergoglio's behind the scenes views as cardinal, but that whatever views he might have expressed at that time, "he should be given time to develop his policy position as pontiff"."

what did you think of when the pope said atheists can go to heaven too??

Manny

i know im a little late but i didnt have yahoo answers back then so yea. and the vatican of course said the pope is tripping and all atheists are going to hell. but ignore that part. what do you think of pope francis saying that? do you think he's a good pope?

Answer
Really? <PhotonX quickly checks the latest news feeds, pinches self to see if he is sleeping> Wow! I guess I need to read the news more often! That's an amazing statement, but it's a sure sign that Catholicism is losing ground and looking for traction wherever it can be found. It's also a very touching effort to build a bridge over the chasm between believers and atheists.
.
I can't wait to see the backpedaling that will result from this statement. At least Catholics backed off a long time ago from the assertion that the Pope is infallible, every word from his lips touched by God, so that will make it considerably easier.
.
Has a Pope ever been fired?
.
"do you think he's a good pope?" At this point, he is my favorite Pope ever. Of course, that's not saying much, coming from an atheist.

Ios 7 jailbreak problems?

Loren

I went to ijailbreakpro.com and paid for a jailbreak package. They gave me a file to download but it doesn't work. I have tried everything to get it to but to no avail. I contacted them and they told me nobody else has had any problems and I should restart my computer (still didn't work). Is their even a jailbreak out that works for ios 7 or did I get scammed?

Answer
Jailbreaking any device, on any firmware will always be free. Never pay for jailbreak, even if you're friend is offering to jailbreak it! For the latest news about jailbreaking or iOS news check out trusted sources such as evasi0n.com (they released iOS 6 - 6.1.2 jailbreak), RedmondPie.com (they do news, reviews, rumours, etc.), Appadvice.com and iDownloadBlog.com (they both are my favourite sites to get information from, they do news, app of the week, wallpapers of the week, etc., and the latest in any jailbreak news.)

evasi0n have also noted that they are very close to iOS 7 jailbreak, this does not mean it is soon though. For the latest updates follow them on Twitter @evad3rs, check out their bio and it has who is in the team

Hope this helped!

How popular would Obama be if he had a TV News Show or Radio Opinion Show?

Obama's di

Can you imagine Obama speaking to the public for HOURS everyday without a teleprompter or written down speeches?
Wouldn't it ruin his popularity, he taught Saul Alinsky's radical views and loves Bill Ayers weatherground views and Black Liberation Theology views. He doesn't have his own ideas- he uses radicals ideas.

Answer
I'd throw my TV or radio in the bathtub!!! & you're right about the radical part....that's what's scaring me, I don't like how things are going.

is Con Talk Radio and Faux "News" so popular because otherwise...?

Warm Gooey

Con Sheeple wouldn't know what to think about anything?

Cons seem to lean on every word their leaders say, such as Limbaugh, O'reily and Mark Levin say. A few nights ago I tuned into Levin's show and overheard a caller telling Levin to not go on many vacations, because she would feel lost without tuning into his show each night. and if course Levin said he see his show as being too important for him to take vacations from it.

Answer
Conservative talk radio and Fox News are popular because conservatives are indoctrinated to trust only conservative talk radio and Fox News for information. They believe every other source of information is liberally biased because that's what conservative talk radio and Fox News keeps telling them.

I find it funny how conservatives will brag about how much better the ratings for conservative talk radio and Fox News are when compared to more liberally biased media and then claim it's liberals who have been brainwashed by media. Who's really watching their preferred media outlets religiously here?

Is justin bieber coming to Washington DC in 2011?? or 2012?

lolipopbab

pls dont be mean i just want to know the truth??

Answer
Of course, it will be in 2011 though. Justin Bieber doesn't plan on touring in Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Europe etc until he is finished with his American tour which will be starting on December 4, 2011. He most likely will be touring with his Christmas album 'Under The Mistletoe' until his other album 'Believe' gets released. His 'Under The Mistletoe' album came out on November 1, 2011 and his 'Believe' album comes out sometime around January or Feburary (he has said in his interview with 'Access Hollywood'). You will find out on Twitter when the Canada, United Kingdom, Australia and Europe tour dates will be released by Justin Bieber tweeting about it (he always tweets about something when something of his gets released). I'm sure he will be doing interviews, radio interviews, C.D. signings (he always does C.D signings whenever he makes a new album) and maybe book signings too until he starts up his tour. Me and a few other Beliebers has been trying for about a year and a few months for him to come to my town and one Belieber that was helping knew someone that worked for 96.5 radio station and they helped us also they got a hold of Wilson Warren (a guy that schedules Justin Bieber's schedule) and so he told 96.5 Kiss FM that he was working on a book signing schedule. So he might come to your town for a book signing or anything but keep your eye open cause he could show up whenever. If you have a Twitter that is great because then you would know what is on his book signing schedule the latest news about Justin Bieber are on Twitter way before it is on the most popular celebrity news show E! News that tends to give out news of each and every celebrity and everything they say is true so if you don't have a Twitter I would recommend you to have one. :]

Fox News vs. Al Jazeera English?

Jason R

Why isn't Al Jazeera English allowed to broadcast on US airways yet Fox News (a conservative propaganda network that spreads smears about other counties and about members of the US government) is? If you read their news articles, Al Jazeera English is no more biased towards the US or any country than the Associated Press, BBC World, or CNN International. They are even more impartial than the BBC/CNN when it comes to hot button political issues like the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Lunched in late 2006, many of Al Jazeera English's reporters and journalists are former BBC, CBS, and CNN employees. Al Jazeera English is the first "global HD satellite based television network" that broadcasts on six continents to 100 million viewers (CNN International has 200 million and BBC World as 300 million) and has national headquarters in Washington DC, London, England, Doha, Qatar, and Kuala Lumpar, Malaysia.

Why isn't Al Jazeera English allowed to broadcast on US airways yet Fox News is?

Answer
After looking at the name of Al Jazeera, how many Americans do you think will watch it? I know its perfectly fine, but many will think its "propaganda for the enemy." Most won't watch it, and in fact most will probably protest it being on the air.

On the other hand, Fox News is, if nothing else, very entertaining. I agree its hardly the unbiased and "fair and balanced" reporting they claim to be. But that's not the point, the point is to make money. And to make money, you need ratings.

Fox News gets ratings, regardless of the foolishness of most of their hosts for their various "news" shows; Al Jazeera almost certainly would not get ratings in America. It would get a lot of protests, though.

C'est la vie.

Add-on:

People seem to be thinking that Al Jazeera English is not allowed to broadcast in America. That isn't true; they ARE allowed to broadcast in America.

Its just that no television station will carry their broadcasts. Its not that they aren't allowed to do so, its that they don't want to. And they don't want to precisely for the reasons I said; its a lot of work dealing with protests, but no money because perception that it is the "enemy's network" will keep viewers away.

You won't find carriers for Al Jazeera, but they are allowed to broadcast if they can ever find a carrier station.

Challenge: Name Celebrities and Doctors!?

kuripowder

Okay, so for school I've decided to write an editorial/commentary on celebrity culture, obsession, etc.
Now tell me...
Can you name 10 celebrities and 10 doctors (or scientists)?
RULES:
CURRENT celebrities, doctors/scientists, not like died-quite-a-longish-time-ago Einstein, Galileo, or Newton!
DON'T SEARCH ON GOOGLE (OR BING, ETC.) Using just your current knowledge!
:)

ps
If you can't think of 10 for each, doesn't matter! That's obviously what I was trying to get at...
heh

Answer
I can not name 1 scientist who is famous today. And I try to keep up on the News. I also don't follow celebrity gossip but could name 10 movie actors easily.

i am fed up with buying newspapers and hearing about celebrity gossip, it does?

freshwind

not interest me, should i stop buying them or what

Answer
You're not the only one. I don't like gossip to begin with, and to have to read all that negative publicity is just another reason for me not to buy the paper. The only reason I do get the paper is for the crossword puzzles. I love to sit and do all the puzzles while having my morning cup of coffee. My husband knows that he had better not talk to me until I finish them. Back to the celebrity gossip......I do not buy any tabloids because of it, and I never read the trash in the paper. I have taken another step though. I write to the papers about the publicity that they give to those celebrities who love to see their names in print. I think the youth of today needs to read some positive news of descent people setting a good example for them.

What Hilary Duff's Mom Thinks Of Joel!!!
"Joel is like a kid. He's playful and they like to do fun things like play put-put and go bowling. They listen to music and spend time in the studio. Joel is very spiritual. He doesn't drink or do drugs. He's very close to his family. I don't like people judging Joel because of his tattoos. His tattoos are spiritual and God-related. They are really important to him and daily reminder of something important in his life. I have really adored everybody who has been in Hilary's life. top 10 most popular websites in China?

Tim Will

In the Usa im sure Face Book,Yahoo,Ebay are among them but since China has the largest percentage of Internet users what sites are popular in China?

Answer
I believe the Alexa ratings are somewhat out of date. This list seems more recent, but I'm not sure it's listed in order.

1) Taobao.com
The big daddy of Chinese e-commerce, Taobao is China's answer to eBay, and the most popular retail site on the mainland. It is owned by the Alibaba group and has 190 million registered users who bid on items or buy them directly from sellers using a special escrow service called Alipay. Taobao sells a huge range of items from mosquito nets to mountain bikes, and the Wangwang chat service allows users to discuss products and prices.

2) Kaixin001
The Chinese government shut down many Western social networking sites in the aftermath of the Xinjiang riots in the summer of 2009. This allowed home-grown websites to flourish, including Kaixin001. Appealing especially to office workers in top tier cities, Kaixin001 attracts 3.5 million users a week, and is the 13th most popular website in China.

3) 51.com
Another social networking leviathan, 51.com gets a massive 14 million unique visits per week. It was founded in 2005, and is the largest social networking site in China.

4) Renren.com
Social networking site Renren.com started life as Xiaonei.com in 2005. Aimed at university students, it was a shameless rip-off of Facebook, copying the font, color, and layout. It was founded by Wang Xing, who also launched the Twitter clone Fanfou.

5) Douban.com
Its name means "watercress", but Douban has nothing to do with vegetables. It's a Web 2.0 net community on which users discuss and recommend books, films, music, fashion, and other topics. It is one of China's largest online communities, with 10 million registered users. Censors keep a close eye on Douban, and are quick to ban volatile keywords and topics.

6) Youku.com
Youku is a video hosting site along the lines of YouTube, but trumps its Western rival by showing full-length episodes instead of 10 minute portions. Youku started life in 2006 as a repository for user-generated video content.

7) Tudou.com
Another popular Chinese website with a vegetable name, Tudou is another video sharing site.

8) Baidu.com
Baidu, the Chinese version of Google, has a romantic story behind its name. The words "bai du" (ç¾åº¦) meaning "a hundred times" appear in the Song Dynasty poem "Green Jade Table in the Lantern Festival" by Xin Qiji, in which a girl looks back hundreds of times for her lost lover. Romance aside, Baidu is one of China's most popular search engines, and has the same iconic status as Google. It was founded in 2000 by Robin Li and Eric Xu, and was the first Chinese company to be included in the NASDAQ-100 index.

9) QQ.com
The site that's responsible for those ubiquitous "bi-bi-bi-bi" trills that can make office life hell, QQ is the most popular instant messaging platform on mainland China. Part of Tencent.com, it is the Chinese equivalent of MSN Messenger or AIM.

10) Sina.com.cn
The largest "infotainment" web portal in China, Sina is based in Shanghai and offers users an array of news stories, showbiz gossip, photographs, and forums.

11) 163.com
The 163.com domain belongs to the large-scale internet company NetEase, and is one of the most popular "infotainment" web portals in China. It came 28th in the Alexa rankings in April 2010, beating Western giants AOL, BBC, and ESPN in page views.

Why did the Anchorage Daily News endorse Obama?

Dan H

The Anchorage Daily News endorsed Obama, saying that putting Palin "one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time."

I thought Palin was popular in Alaska. Why would the main paper endorse Obama?

Answer
The Anchorage Daily News endorsed John Kerry in 2004 and Al Gore in 2000. It backed Bill Clinton in both 1996 and 1992, and Michael Dukakis in 1988. Its 1992 endorsement of Clinton began with a familiar theme

"Change" is about the first word from Bill Clinton's lips at every campaign stop. But Gov. Clinton offers more than just change for change's sake. He offers something this country no longer associates with politicians:

Hope.

As far back as 1976, Time magazine reported:

Unchanged, however, is the paper's willingness to assume unpopular editorial positions; it champions gun control (anathema in Alaska) and stricter environmental protection laws. The Daily News generally supports Democrats and endorsed George McGovern for President in 1972.

That such a newspaper still backs Democrats isn't earth shaking news, despite media efforts to make it appear that way.

Pubic hair and vodka tampons: how likely are you to believe a news fad?

CAustin

According to the National Post, the rise of Brazilian waxes is rendering the pubic louse extinct!
https://www.google.com/news?ncl=dImrKT6DeiRnBYMOzkyDb342MBsjM&q=pubic+lice+disappearing&lr=English&hl=en

...except that according to the Atlantic Wire (and a few others), the National Post doesn't know what it's talking about.
http://www.theatlanticwire.com/national/2013/01/bikini-waxes-arent-killing-pubic-lice-after-all/60986/

They point out that the "shaving causing pubic louse extinction" stories have been cropping up periodically for the last five years or so, often by reputable sources, and always on shaky anecdotal reporting. Along with more recognized news-fad tropes like the "teens getting drunk on alcoholic tampons / suppositories" stories* **, news like this gets run because the sexual themes make it popular and catchy, and they specifically concern things that are impossible to verify by more reliable sources (the CDC and HPA don't collect pubic lice data, because the lice don't transmit diseases).

Would you believe stuff like this if you saw it on your local news?

BQ: What other kinds of questionably-accurate things get frivolously reported by small news outlets?
**http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/offbeat/teens-using-vodka-soaked-tampons-to-get-drunk-111111

You can't make this stuff up :)

Answer
I doubt the vodka tampon story is true, because you're no more likely to get drunk from holding a vodka soaked tampon in your vagina than you are from holding vodka in your mouth. Yes, some of the alcohol would be absorbed by the mucus membrane in both locations, but probably not enough to even get you tipsy. It would probably start to burn, though.

The suppository story probably is true though. Inserting alcohol anally CAN get you drunk. It's not a safe thing to do.

Spice and Wolf Anime Season 3 (March 2013)?

Zephyrot

good evening everybody.

I am a big fan of Spice and Wolf, especially the anime. After three years of absolute silence I gave up hope of ever seeing a third season of what I believe to be one of the finest animes of the last decade... Good drawings, great dub, good theme: nor silly neither childish...

actually when I say silence I am referring to official sources and not to anime-lovers' forums which, by the way, are full of people that really enjoyed watching this anime and would like to see a third season at least to wrap things up... because let's be honest, it kind of ended on a cliffhanger... ok, Lawrence saves Horo, confesses his feelings but the story is far from over... after reading the books (at least what has been translated up until now) I just realized that the anime covers books 1,2,3&5... moreover the OAV included as the first episode of the second season is actually the third side story of the seventh book... so chronologically there would be still 9 books to be covered... which coincide by the way with the nine books that have yet to be translated for us non-Japanese audience...

Anyway, even though I liked this anime, as I told you before I wasn't paying attention to it anymore until last year, when yen press decided to buy the rights for the books 7,8&9... At a certain point I saw on a site what it was claimed to be an interview with Isuna Hasekura (the author of Spice and Wolf) telling that a third season for the anime might have been possible depending on the sales' ratings of a third release of the BR/DVD anime collection...

Point is: I was using a web translator to translate a Japanese site so I don't really know if it was official or just a prank... web translators ain't that good... when you use them only half of the page get usually translated in a way that it's readable...

the one million dollar question is: does anybody know anything about it?

I mean, it might have sense since I have already seen animes deriving from light novels waiting for a big audience before continuing the anime realization... (even though I must admit I never saw so much dead time between seasons)

anyway, the interview went on saying that the third phase of the anime sales was just about to start (it actually really did on September 2012) and that depending on the audience, both in Japan and in the States they might have thought of producing the third anime season, the site was also giving this video link to promote the third release:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t79adaDO6o&list=PLXURqapYkT4rayBmA42_LEFKyJrS--6SY

well... the time passed and the reviews on Amazon are incredible... how are the sales going? Does anybody know something about this interview? And about the realization of a third season under the given conditions?
AnimeFanx3, bro that's the key of my question... does anybody else have heard, read or seen this interview? is it reliable?
I'VE FOUND A WEBSITE SPEAKING OF THE INTERVIEW I MENTIONED.. but this one ain't official though... here it is:

http://blurayspot.com/spice-and-wolf-season-3-news-there-could-be-a-trailer-of-season-3-on-9-11-12-in-december/
one last thing, sorry for my huge question :P

Answer
Please make your questions a little shorter next time :P

Anyway I don't follow the Spice and Wolf updates/news but I'm sure there hasn't been a confirmation for a new season, there are rumors no one has a reliable source for it so it's wise for you to not get your hopes up yet. There's a chance for a new season since, indeed, the novels are popular but that doesn't automatically mean there'll be a 3rd season.

In short; there isn't any news about a 3rd season and unless someone can actually show an interview/magazine as argument you shouldn't believe whatever they say on the internet...
