In My Yahoo page Kim Kardashian is Number 1 in the "Trending list". Why the heck do people give a sh*t about that?
And aren't women usually MORE interested in Celebrity Gossip?

I think that "trending" thing is a lie--just random names that come up for the hell of it. Now its says "Lindsey Lohan." Seriously? When was the last time SHE was relevant or "trendy"? It must be on some random name pick thing.

As for the question, some people are, but mostly its the media perpetuating the media. The media projects this idea that EVERYONE is a celebrity gossip or obsessor where as most people aren't. Some might watch here or there, or pick up a magazine in the store line, but rarely does it go beyond that. As another poster said, its a product that is cheap, quick, and easy to produce.

As for men vs. women, it varies. Men might get into sports gossip/talk more, where as women might get into celebrity talk more, though it can vary either way. I'd venture to say they're both rather similar, just in different genres.

I think for many people it's a form of escapism reading about celebrities lives. It also shows people that celebrities aren't these perfect beings with perfect lives, that they go through the same ups and downs and experiences as normal people. I agree that celebrity gossip is stupid, I read it but it's just something to do when im on a train journey or bored. It's not that I really care, but a bit of gossip is fun. I think there's such a hype around the royal baby because the royal family is such a prominent part of being British and they are one of the most important and powerful families in the world. I think the tabloids are trying to show that even though they are so powerful and important, they are also down to earth and normal and Kate and William just want to be normal parents. Also the royal baby is very significant to our history and our future, baby George might be king one day.

Justin Bieber is also one of the most famous teenagers in the world and has a large fan base who care about what goes on in his life. I agree that celebrity gossip is stupid and I dont understand how some of it makes the front page in the papers, but what makes celebrities distinct is that the whole world knows their business, that's what being famous is about. Only very few people know and care about my life, but when you're famous people become obsessed with you and millions of people know about your business.

Also people thrive on gossip and it provides people with entertainment and something to talk about. Like I said it's a form of escapism and a form of entertainment. It's much easier to escape your problems when you see celebrities have problems. It's like a TV series in a way, you always want to know what happens next, will Kim and Kanye break up, will they have another baby and call it another stupid name, how will they raise their child? Scandals are always exciting and interesting and a topic for conversation, plus some celebrities are attention seekers and want everyone to know everything about their lives, whilst some celebrities like the quiet life away from the spotlight, occassionally coming out to attend big events.

Reading celebrity gossip makes me feel better as it shows that being famous isn't all glamour and has its downsides; I feel sorry for celebrities and some of them just have pathetic lives which revolve around money and superficiality. It makes me happy to be normal and not famous. Hope this helped :)

I notice that people not only aren't ashamed or afraid of their own sin, but they actually wallow in it; glorify themselves in it. Probably the most pervasive example is the following:

A former womenâs volleyball player at Mercyhurst College was charged on Tuesday with homicide for allegedly suffocating her baby minutes after giving birth last month. The student, Teri Rhodes, never told anyone she was pregnant, but had searched the Internet for âherbal abortion techniquesâ and âwhat can kill a fetus,â the Times-News, a newspaper in Erie, Pa., reported.

The 18-year-old sophomore underwent a physical examination on August 10, and the doctor asked if she was pregnant, according to the newspaper. Ms. Rhodes said she didnât think so. The doctor cleared her to play volleyball, and she practiced with the team that day.

Two days later, she gave birth to a baby girl in the bathroom of her campus apartment. She placed the infant in a plastic bag in the bathtub, news reports said. Her roommate, worried about noises coming from the bathroom,
Ms. Rhodes was arraigned on multiple charges on Tuesday and could face life in prison if she is convicted.

Concern that some pregnant college athletes may feel pressure to have abortions prompted the NCAA to review its guidelines on pregnancy this year, and new guidance is in the works. Many colleges do not have policies to protect pregnant athletes, who may worry, among other things, that they could lose their scholarships.

Officials at Mercyhurst, a small Roman Catholic college in northwestern Pennsylvania, declined to comment on the case. The athletic director did not respond to calls today. In a written statement, the college said: âNever can we avert every tragedy. They are a part of life.â âSara Lipka

Unwanted babies unfortunately are a fact of life, not that I'm condoning the mothers actions. But babies can be surrended at hospitals, can't they? Surely that would've been better than death for the poor child.

My fiance & I planned trip to wine country (Erie PA). I was so mad at him he didn't pack a single thing. (so I packed him at 4am) He was in the shower for ever. He forgot the directions so we had to turn around. He wanted to stop at this state park on the way up. FINE.... I wasn't thilled since we would be driving for 3 hours & were already late! Then we got lost. I wanted to skip the state park. We stopped we were over looking a gorge where you could see for about 8 miles. We got there at 6:40am right around sunrise. I was taken photos, he asked if he could take the camera for new batteries & if I wanted my drink. I said no...(I was so mad at this point) So when he came back down the hill he said my name. When I turned around he was on 1 knee ring in hand, & asked "will you marry me" I started crying. I couldn't breath!!! I hugged & kissed him. It was perfect. He reminded me I never said YES...I told him I thought I was going to pass out I was so excited! All our photos from there my face is bright read from crying.
To make the story better. He had taken the camera set it up on a rock so when he got down on 1 knee it took a series of photos. He has the photo proposal & my freak out on film!
I spent the next few hours calling family & friends. Crying my eyes out. I think if I didn't call with such great news they would have killed me it was before 7:30am on a Saturday Morning!

What is the deal with celebrities and gossip?

Personally, I don't see the big deal lately. We spend more time talking about the things that are important, because we're so worried about Rihanna stealing Beyonce's man or Lindsay Lohan sniffing cocaine, or even, Paris Hilton going to jail. I realized that something has got to change when my cousin (who is 10 by the way) came up to me and said "So, what do you think about Jay-Z leaving Beyonce for Rihanna?" I could personally care less. So, right here! right now! i want your opinion on why we act like celebs aren't real people, just like the rest of society. Is it because they make tons of more money than the average American worker? or, is there a factor playing in this, that i'm missing? Someone please help me understand.

I've already looked online, but I'd like to know what it is in relation to celebrities like Beyonce, Jay-Z etc. There seems to be a hype about what celebrities are a part of it. According to online resources, it dates back to a long time ago, when Benjamin Franklin became a part of it (and even before).

What I'd like to know is, can you go into detail about why you think celebrities nowadays are a part of it, and why? There has to be a reason why there seems to be Illuminati propaganda all over social media.

Also, why would celebrities like those mentioned above, be a part of it? It seems almost as if child celebrities are following the same path as the older ones are.

I'm looking for an answer in almost six year old language (don't take it literally). I'd really like to understand in depth about this whole cult/organisation thing.

Is it possible that global warming will result in another great Ice Age? The reason why I ask is that I saw a small portion of a documentary about global warming. Since I saw only a portion of it, I don't know all of the details. However, I know that I heard something about a new Ice Age that could set in. Does anyone have additional info about this?

Most Americans are not stupid. Given enough time, Idiot Barry's support will almost completely disappear, and many people will have cut their subscriptions to The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, The Los Angeles Times, and The New York Times. Actually, everyone forgets it started with Clinton getting elected because he was the first presidential candidate to go on MTV and promote Rock the vote and the Motor Voter bill. Bush Sr. probably would have gotten re-elected except Ross perot refused to abdicate and Republican votes that would have swayed to Bush Sr the incumbent went to Perot. Clinton only got something like 43% of the popular vote in 1992. It was not the landslide the Democrats wanted it to be but the irony is, A staunch conservative, Perot probably handed Clinton the election. Clinton enacted NAFTA and shut down American Military bases all over the world. It made it look like He brought the country out of the red and into the black when all he really did was give American factories the legal opportunity to ship themselves to Mexico and de-fund Military bases. There were towns across the US that depended on the Bases near them economically. One could do a study on Lubbock Texas as a perfect example of When a base closes down (Reese Air Force Base) and the North American Free Trade Agreement ships jobs across the border.

Meanwhile Clinton and Gore Took credit for a Burgeoning Computer and Telecommunications Industry. I can Tell you first hand as Silicon Valley Kid. that industry was going to Explode regardless of who was president.

Let us not forget The WTC was attacked in 93 under Clinton and He managed to get some Marines Killed in Bosnia. THAT was an Illegal war.

Anna Nicole Smith dies after collapsing 9 minutes ago



HOLLYWOOD, Fla. - Anna Nicole Smith, the former Playboy playmate whose bizarre life careened from marrying an octogenarian billionaire to the untimely death of her son, died Thursday after collapsing at a South Florida hotel, one of her lawyers said.

Smith, 39, collapsed and was unresponsive while staying at the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hotel and Casino, said the attorney, Ron Rale. She was rushed to a hospital.

"She checked in Monday at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow," said Danielle Giordaano, a spokeswoman for the hotel.

Smith had been a tabloid staple even before she became Playboy's playmate of the year in 1993. Readers were fascinated by her bombshell good looks, her marriage to an elderly billionaire and subsequent court fight over his estate, her weight fluctuations, and last year, the sudden death of her 20-year-old son, Daniel Smith.

A former topless dancer, she made her name squeezing into Guess jeans. She resembled the late actress Marilyn Monroe, a similarity played up in her Guess magazine ads, billboards and department store displays.

In 1994, she married 89-year-old oil tycoon J. Howard Marshall II, the head of oil-based Koch Industries, which is part of a family fortune worth at least $400 million.

He died in 1995, setting off a feud with her former stepson, E. Pierce Marshall, over whether she had a right to his estate.

A federal court in California awarded Smith $474 million in a complicated legal twist that began after she declared bankruptcy. That was later overturned.

But in May, the U.S. Supreme Court revived her case, ruling that she deserved another day in court in her battle with her former stepson.

The justices said only that federal courts in California could deal with her case despite a Texas state court ruling that Marshall was the sole heir to the estate.

Then, the stepson died June 20 at age 67. But the family said the court fight would continue.

Daniel Smith died Sept. 10 in his mother's hospital room in the Bahamas, just days after she gave birth to a daughter.

An American medical examiner hired by the family, Cyril Wecht, said he had methadone and two antidepressants in his system when he died. Low levels of the three drugs interacted to cause an accidental death, Wecht said.

Meanwhile, the paternity of her now 5-month-old daughter remained a matter of dispute.

She was born Vickie Lynn Hogan on Nov. 28, 1967, in Houston, one of six children of Donald Eugene and Virgie Hart Hogan.

She married Bill Smith in 1985, giving birth to Daniel before divorcing two years later.

If you check how one significant event can be reported in so many ways by different news agencies you will realize how the media "bend" the reporting of events.
There is almost no alternative. Just choose a source that "looks" right for yourself and maybe check out other sources now and then for balance.

Well, when im bored on the internet I 'windowinternetshop' which is just going to store websites that I like and just looking through the clothes they have and bookmarking everything that I like just for future reference.

If that isn't your cup of tea you could look around Youtube.com and just browse through searches or their different categories of videos and just waste time looking through bunches of videos.

Why won't yahoo messenger let me change my display image?

I even deleted the freaking picture from my computer and it's still my display image. every time i change it, it just goes back. also i'm using a mac if that matters and i have deleted and reinstalled it so many times but it's still there. what. the. heck yahoo come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. take time to fix your messenger app instead of making all the dumb celebrity gossip videos that NOOOO ONE cares about.

MANILA (Reuters) - About a dozen uniformed Philippine soldiers on trial for a failed 2003 mutiny walked out of court on Thursday and set up camp in a luxury hotel in Manila's financial district, calling for the overthrow of the government.

There was no violence but the soldiers included a senator who led an attempt to overthrow President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo in 2003 and they were joined by former vice-president Teofisto Guingona.

Senator Antonio Trillanes, speaking earlier on local television, urged people to join the rebel soldiers in the Makati financial district.

Trillanes was a navy officer when he led the attempted coup.

Mobile text messages in Manila urged people to gather at the Peninsula Hotel, which is around the corner from the stock exchange.

Another mutineer Brigadier Danilo Lim, a former commander of the elite Scout Rangers unit, said the group was taking control of government.

"We make this fateful step of removing Mrs. Macapagal Arroyo from the presidency and undertake the formation of a new government," Lim said in a press conference at the Peninsula Hotel.

GUARDS JOIN DEFENDANTS

Around two dozen soldiers, some armed, took up positions in the hotel's palatial lobby while guests continued to sip coffee and take lunch.

They included the dozen soldiers on trial for the 2003 mutiny, along with their guards at the courthouse who were supposed to prevent the kind of escape that transpired on Thursday.

Troops stationed at the base of the lobby staircase refused to let Manila's police chief pass.

Some of the soldiers wore red armbands with a sun logo, similar to an insignia worn during the mutiny in 2003, when junior officers took over a luxury apartment tower in the financial district. That coup bid ended peacefully.

Arroyo ordered the army to re-arrest the soldiers and military chief General Hermogenes Esperon said all means would be used.

"I directed the national capital regional commander to address the situation and use force if needed," Esperon told reporters in Zamboanga City, where he was visiting troops.

A Reuters reporter saw at least five truckloads of navy men around the hotel.

The police were put on full alert and radio reports said Arroyo had called an emergency cabinet meeting.

Arroyo, deeply unpopular due to long-running corruption allegations, has survived at least two coup plots and three impeachment bids because of a jaded middle class that is sick of political instability, and a strong majority in the lower house.

The stock market and the peso pared earlier gains on the soldiers' actions.

The main index finished up 1.17 percent after earlier climbing 2.8 percent.

"It hurts the whole country," Vivian Yuchengco, a director of the Philippine Stock Exchange, said. "People like that should be thrown in jail."

The peso was quoted at 42.97 against the dollar compared to Wednesday's close at 42.86.

The leaders of the group marched into the Peninsula Hotel after breaking a glass door to get in, according to local television but guests were unperturbed.

"We are not scared. We are used to this government. Our only problem is how to get out because there are navy trucks outside," said Ed Castro, who was having lunch at the hotel.

My wife and I got married on April 29, 2011, the same day as Prince William and Kate Middleton. It was certainly not planned.

Now, strangely enough, my wife is pregnant and due in July, which is presumably when Kate is due.

I am not a fan of the royals or celebrity gossip in general, but I find this to be strange. What do you make of it? Do you think they'd offer us a free trip to London after the babies are born?

I doubt that. Im sure many people have had coincidental moments with celebrity's but doesnt mean they pay to see them. Sorry just unlikely but if you want to try to see if they will then it never hurts to try!

Does this sound like a good idea for a magazine? Could I accomplish this?

I want to create a magazine for teen girls that uses real, non-photoshoped models of all shapes and sizes to help reduce self-image problems in teens. It would also contain articles that talk about important issues (the environment, teenage depression, the dangers of tanning, etc) so people will start realizing the issues that are important (instead of celebrity gossip, and skinny models).

Would this catch on? How could I achieve this?
I need some help, I don't know where to start.

That sounds almost exactly like Seventeen, except with a lot of superficial stuff scrubbed out. It sounds like the bones of Seventeen without the flesh. and that other girl is right, every issue, Discovery Girl goes to a different state and picks a bunch of REAL beautiful tween/teen girls and puts them in the mag. It's cool. I would read it if you had some really good fashion pages in it to soften those hard-hitting articles and some Justin Bieber pictures every once in a while :).

Get some people together and work it out I can't wait for it!

Oh, and skip on the embarrassing moments, boy advice, and horoscopes. Teen Vogue is a much beter magazine than Seventeen because it eliminates the boy whining and "OMG Moments". Although it soes have a lot of skinny models in it's pages, they're real girls too and none are painfully skinny, and they do have articles about teen weight, depression, underage drinking, and things like that.

flip through some of your competiton, find what you have and they don't and do your research. I don't know what point you're at in the process, but try to find the biographys of the editors of other mags. how did THEY do it?

Hindi-dubbed cartoons and confusion in children learning Urdu?

Q. Now that I'm having a little girl soon, I want to know more about teaching children another language. An Indian friend gave me some Hindi-dubbed cartoons (a lot of them Disney like Lion King, etc), and I figured that putting them on for her when she's old enough would be good enough for her to find an interest in Urdu (in addition to me speaking it fluently with her). But someone later told me that while both are mutually intelligible languages, they're different to the point where one can tell you're speaking Hindi over Urdu. Honestly, I have nothing against Hindi whatsoever, but because my side of the family all speak Urdu, I want my daughter to speak pure Urdu rather than a Hindi/Urdu mixture.

In addition, my husband, who is Arab, will be teaching her Arabic before we introduce English to her.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to train children to speak multiple languages and if anyone can tell me the real differences between Hindi and Urdu and whether or not her Urdu acquisition would be affected by Hindi cartoons, please let me know! I always thought everyday/casual Urdu and Hindi were the exact same language until someone else told me otherwise.

First of all, I am no expert, jut trying to share what I know. I studied in psychology that a child can learn so many languages you want him to learn till 7th year. After 7th year the ability to learn a language start decreasing slowly. Of course there are many exceptions, like the way of teaching. You don't want the child to get confused.
I don't know in which country you live because the language your child will speak at school will play a major role. Because children spend their most time of the day in school.
So now to your point/ Difference between Urdu and Hindi. They are not same languages! Yes, the structure is about the same. Hindi speaking and Urdu speaking understand each other. But Hindi has it's typical words which do not exist in Urdu. TV and cartoons play a very very important role in the language learning process. I give you an example, we had cartoonnetwork in English in Pakistan. The kids in the family used to watch cartoons there and their English became so good but then they translated it to Hindi, and they start speaking Hindi words. I my self (at the age of 13-14) used to watch National Geographic Channel, which was in English at that time and it helped me alot with English. And then it was dubbed in Hindi. And my Hindi vocabulary started increasing and I was speaking Hindi words. So yes there is a difference between Urdu and Hindi. like the word 'Trust' we say in Urdu: 'Bhroosa' but in Hindi they say 'Wishwaas'. So there are differences. Look what is happening in Pakistan, women watch StarPlus dramas with their children, and they speak those Hindi words. Me my self have nothing against Hindi, but this is just the beginning and if it keeps going like this it will do damage to Urdu. And our modern people try their best now-a-days to mix English words in Urdu just to show that they know English.
But I have met some Europeans who watch Hindi movies can communicate in Urdu (a little, depends how much they see and use the language in their lives). These languages are quit same (the script is totally different, may be you know it). Hindi cartoons/movies can be helpful but not the best option if you want your child to learn pure Urdu. Unfortunately we don't have so many cartoons dubbed in Urdu and we use Hindi dubbed cartoons. But there must be some in Urdu. What you can do is that you speak with her always in Urdu at home, never mix languages. I don't know if your husband also speaks Urdu. But you should always speak Urdu with her, surround her with Urdu, watch Urdu channels, news in front of her. There are cartoons in Urdu on Pakistani Urdu channels. Again, always speak Urdu with her.
The country where you live in is the most important factor, because when she will go to school, she will speak in that local language with the teachers and other students.
But you can also discuses this with her teachers when she goes to school. But before school just speak Urdu.
I appreciate that you are paying attention to the language factor (which is very important). It will be better for her if she learns as many languages as possible in her childhood. And English is a MUST!! And as a grown up it is quit difficult to learn a new language.

Personally, I don't see the big deal lately. We spend more time talking about the things that are important, because we're so worried about Rihanna stealing Beyonce's man or Lindsay Lohan sniffing cocaine, or even, Paris Hilton going to jail. I realized that something has got to change when my cousin (who is 10 by the way) came up to me and said "So, what do you think about Jay-Z leaving Beyonce for Rihanna?" I could personally care less. So, right here! right now! i want your opinion on why we act like celebs aren't real people, just like the rest of society. Is it because they make tons of more money than the average American worker? or, is there a factor playing in this, that i'm missing? Someone please help me understand.
i meant to say that we spend less time talking about the things that are important...whoops...sorry ya'll.
