Why do people idolize substandard human beings?

Wayfarer

Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, etc...These people have no souls, they are born into wealth, make a sex tape, and suddenly they are a household name. Why? Meanwhile a firefighter, a cop, or a sildier dies in the line of duty and their names aren't even mentioned.

Answer
Because sadly, that's what is happening to our country. People who risk their lives to serve our communities receive little light, while the media thinks that whatever Kim Kardashian, Snookie, "the situation", or Johny Buttfuck did on Saturday was more important. At least 74 people were killed in the world cup bombing yesterday. At least 74. I turned on the news. Were they reporting it? No. They were reporting summer meals, the latest fashion, and the newest ways to spoil your child. Because that's how they tame us. They stimulate us with mind-numbing television. They encourage us to consume, consume, consume. The only way to escape the shit is to turn your television off. You won't have to see those celebrity scumbags if you aren't watching TV. Instead, go to your local fire dept or police dept and thank them for all that they do and all that they risk to keep us safe. It's time we all woke up. Oh, and "born this way", I really hope you're kidding.

Have you ever cross dressed for a costume party or any other reason?

NY789

I am going to a costume party soon and thought it might be a good laugh to dress up in drag and pretend to be a woman. Have you ever dressed as the opposite gender for a costume, what did you dress as and how good did you look? And do you have any suggestions?

Answer
Both my bf and I have cross dressed for Halloween. He wasn't exactly like a full on drag queen, he was a "Hogette", it's a group of guys that dress up kind of like women but put on a hog nose. Washington Redskins fans are the ones that do this.

A few years later I dressed up like a scary looking hobo. I got some of my bf's old jeans and old t-shirt with a camo jacket, got them really dirty. I tore the toes to an old pair of loafers I had and put on this scary looking old man mask and a beanie. And I carried an empty bottle of Busch in a paper sack. It was hilarious, one of the best costumes of the night.

Think about a woman that has been in the news like Lindsey Lohan in jail, or Angelina Jolie with a ton of kids attached to you, or Kim Kardashian with the huge butt, you can let people put drinks on it. Make it funny like that, because a full on drag like RuPaul might come across weird. I hope this helps. Have fun!

What do gunphobic crazies think of the latest news in Illinois?

A prosecutor has announced that he will not prosecute residents in his county who carry concealed. As you already know the State is a gun control paradise for many of you Brady Campaign loons and forbids concealed carry. So what is your take on it?

Answer
That is in Madison County and while I applaud him, I suspect Lisa Madigan (the IL AG) will probably call him up moaning.
IL was to have the CCW requirements in place by June 9. They did not. Madigan asked for an extension. It was granted because as Madigan says "Gov Quinn needs more time to review the legislation". Most of us call BS on this because both Quinn and Madison are total gun advocates and are no doubt trying to find a way to keep guns out of the hands of IL citizens. I predict the requirements will be so extensive or so costly most people will not be able to obtain the permits.

What gun control laws did Great Britain have when the American colonies revolted?

water_skip

What gun control laws did Great Britain have when the American colonies revolted? It seems to me that if the United States put the right to keep and bear arms in its constitution, it must have been from a bad British experience. Was it just because they wanted civilians to revolt against the government, or was there a gun control law Britain had they felt was unreasonable?

Answer
The Right to Bear Arms or Arm Bears is a tricky issue. The issue as applied to the American Colonies was complex. There was no out & out ban against guns. An unenforceable tenet in a time & place when hunting game & killing the natives was expected. What Britain did to anger the Coloniest was to insist that they get their guns & powder from Britain, through commercial channels that could be policed. And the amount of weapons and especially powder that an individual could own was the biggest bone of contention. A man might argue that he needs a rifle and a certain amount of powder but when that man owns more than a dozen rifles and several barrels of powder, well he might be agitating against authority.

Authority was the the issue in the American Colonies. When Britain asserted authority by demanding that Americans enumerate their weapons & stores of powder and restricted the amount of gunpowder imported into the colonies and prevented th colonies from starting a gunpowder manufactury of their own, the Americans got angry. Hence the ammendent proclaiming the right to bear arms.

(and that amednment didn't come into play until after the American Revolution, in 1789 when the US Constitution was cobbled together and ratified)

Note the odd paralell in Iraq circa 2007 wherein citizens must register their one gun per person with the authorities and keep a careful inventory of bullets bought, etc.

Here is link and snippets...
http://www.fff.org/freedom/0694e.asp
"""------------The early British colonists, imbued with the English distrust for standing military establishments as a threat to civil liberties, incorporated the tradition of the citizen-soldier. In 1636, the first militia unit, the North Regiment of Boston, was formed, followed two years later by the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, the oldest American military unit in existence.

One of the first acts of Parliament following the accession of William and Mary to the throne of England as a result of the Glorious Revolution of 1688 was to restore the old constitution with its provision that every man may arm for self-defense.

In 1760, Britain began adopting mercantilist policies toward her American colonies. By 1768, these had produced such hardships and a reversal of the previous prosperity that British troops had to be sent to suppress riots and collect taxes.

Between 1768-1777, the British policy was to disarm the American colonists by whatever means possible, from entrapment, false promises of safekeeping, banning imports, seizure, and eventually shooting persons bearing arms.

By 1774, the British had embargoed shipments of arms to America, and the Americans responded by arming themselves and forming independent militia companies.

On the night of 18 April 1775, General Gage, Governor of Massachusetts, dispatched several hundred soldiers of the Boston garrison under the command of Major Pitcairn to seize the arms and munitions stored by the illegal colonial militias in Concord.

When Pitcairn encountered the Minutemen on the Lexington common blocking his way, he demanded that they throw down their arms and disperse. Although willing to disperse, the Minutemen were not willing to surrender their arms. The rest is history.

Three days after the British retreat from Concord, General Gage refused to allow Bostonians to leave the city without depositing their arms and ammunition with a Selectman at Faneuil Hall, to be returned at a suitable time after their return. When the citizens of Boston foolishly complied, Gage seized the arms and refused to permit their owners to leave the city. ("Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking up Arms," July 6, 1775.)

The news of Gage's seizure of the arms of Bostonians not engaged in hostilities and rumors of British troops sailing from England to seize the arms of the colonists swept the colonies.

The colonists considered these actions a violation of their constitutionally guaranteed right to have and use arms for self-preservation and defense, as indeed they were.

In 1777, William Knox, Under Secretary of State for Colonial Affairs, advocated for the American colonies the creation of a ruling aristocracy loyal to the Crown, the establishment of the Church of England, and an unlimited power to tax. To prevent resistance to these measures, Knox proposed disarming all the people:

The Militia Laws should be repealed and none suffered to be re-enacted & the Arms of all the People should be taken away, & every piece of Ordnance removed into the King's Stores, nor should any Foundry or manufacture of Arms, Gun-powder, or Warlike Stores, be ever suffered in America, nor should any Gunpowder, Lead, Arms or Ordnance be imported into it without License; they will have but little need of such things for the future, as the King's Troops, Ships & Forts will be sufficient to protect them from danger.

We hear the same argument today. You don't need arms for your own protection. The police and military will protect you. The question is, who will protect us from the protectors? """"

new york vs florida...?

i live in new york but my parents want to move to florida. i really dont want to move because im in high school and i dont want to leave my family, friends, and school. plus i love my house and i love new york. i've asked my friends for a second opinion and all of them have said that they would move to florida given the chance. i understand thier reasoning, i too like florida. but i really like ny and i was wondering if there was anyone who agrees and would choose ny over florida. if there is please tell me why u feel that way, because i really want another opinion. and if u prefer florida, then i respect ur opinion but theres no need for you to post that here because i've heard it all before. thanks... =)

Answer
I would choose New York!!! I live in Florida and I absolutely hate it!
sure Florida has all the theme parks, but going to the theme parks over and over again just gets old and you no longer appreciate them anymore.
Florida's "snow" consists of bubbles or foam. It rarely gets down to freezing temp. Average winter tempatures average around 50 degrees. Its warm all year long and the summers are horrible. hot and humid! it can get so bad that your drenched in sweat just from getting the mail in the mailbox. The leaves dont change, they just fall. There are no seasons. When the temp hits 65 degrees in FL everyone goes balistic! they either get soo excited that its finally "cold" in FL or they complain that they are "freezing" and it will be all over the news. 65 degrees in FL! OMGGG!!! Its pathetic.
besides, FL is pretty hard to get around. public transportation is limited, and depending on where you live, there may be no public transport whatsoever! There are no subways, and trains are mainly used for transporting goods, not people. There are few taxis and a good amount of busses, but thats it. your either stuck carpooling or walking. its not easy to walk around FL either. Its easier to get around NY.
There is more to do in NY. Most things in FL close around 10-11pm. If you want any late night entertainment, you go hang out in WalMart or go to a bar (which close at 1 btw). The streets are pretty much empty by 10pm. In NY, the streets are packed until 2-3 in the morning, and sometimes even later! theres so much more to do in NY. if you like entertainment and fun, stay in NY!
NY also is home to the Macy's thanksgiving day parade, new years eve ball drop, and the statue of Liberty. FL doesnt have anything that great. We have small town christmas parades that happen TWO weeks before thanksgiving, and we just sit around in our neighborhoods on new years eve drinking sprakling grape juice, wine, and shooting off fireworks... nothing very interesting! you hear of Orlando, Tampa, Miami, and Jacksonville. Our biggest cities... but downtown SUCKS! I dont even call it a downtown. The skyscrapers are like 25 floors high and theres not even big department stores. Downtown Tampa is actually more "rundown" than most other downtown areas.
FL is packed with lots of old people (its where they retire) they go slow on the roads and take forever getting through cash registers. I have nothing against old people, but its aggravating when your in a hurry and theres an old person going 20 miles UNDER the speed limit!
and speaking about driving, FL drivers are horrible! we are either speeding 100 in a 60 mph zone, 60 in a school zone (which is 25mph in FL) or were going 20 in a 45! People cut you off to no end and will blast their horn at you to run a red light! Many FL drivers dont pay attention, Ive seen people text, put makeup on, and even read a book WHILE driving down the road. Its crazy! and every other car you see there will be a person talking on their phone. No one cares and no one is aware. That results in a lot of accidents. And even if there ISNT an accident, some people would follow you just to give you the bird and swear at you. I know i know, that happens everywhere, including NY. but its really bad in FL.
I do love FL and it has its perks, its actually a really great place to live if you plan on retiring or if you like warm weather, theme parks, and beaches. but I do prefer NY over FL... and Ive only been to NY twice.

why is everyone saying that miley cyrus is dead.. i go to youtube .. .miley cyrus is "dead..:" i ask my not accurate friend.. "she is dead.." i go to celebrity gossip web's and to E! news,.. she is not dead

whats the story? i have a feeling she is not dead.. but why is everyone sayin she is all of a sudden?

Answer
you know she gets hacked an awful lot. like all those.....pictures....yah THOSE things scarred me for life....but uh anyway ya someone hacked her youtube and made a stupid video. like i have no respect for that girl but come on shes fucking 15 and people hate her and people get SO jealous of her so they do retarted things. Why would people be jealous of her? and even when they are, why would you wish and desire to be like someone/something and then you go and hate on them/it?! For boys it's the Jonas Brothers and for girls it's usually Miley. I dont get it. But ya whatever she's not dead.

Teens why is Miley Cyrus twerking more important than Syria?

13 year ol

The government starts another illegal war and no ones bats an eye.

Miley Cyrus twerks and everyone loses their fucking minds.

I think political apathy is a very bad thing for a democracy. In fact, a politically apathetic country doesn't remain a democracy for very long. Like the idiot Germans who knew nothing about politics letting Hitler rise to power.

Answer
Because people are numb to it all. Syria is such a mess, and there's so much violence and horror that when people hear of more violence and horror they just brush it off. It doesn't concern them, it's so far away and doesn't affect their lives at all.

But then Miley Cyrus does something unexpected, and since she's a celebrity, people love the scandal of it and they love to gossip about it. It's easier to deal with horrible things like the crisis in Syria if you convince yourself it doesn't affect you at all.

I'll admit, until an amazing class I took at school last year, which kind of changed my life, I knew nothing about what was going on in the world. I didn't care about Syria, because I had no idea what was going on. I never paid attention, because I was more interested in reading about celebrity gossip.

I agree that political apathy is a very bad thing for democracy, but I think it's hard for some people to really grasp what's going in countries like Syria. I mean, if you take the time to actually think about you, it's horrible. So much pointless death and destruction. People would rather ignore the horrors instead of facing them and dealing with it.

Well, I'm a muslim and I watched the movie with 2 other muslims and asked 5 others, and none of us know any significance for this number!! Weird...

Answer
the number has something to do with islam, i see that number in A.R.Rahman's autographs.....

--------------------------

even i m a muslim, but well...lemme chk on it n get bac to u ok...gimme some time

----------------------------

The Arabic letters of the opening phrase of the Qur'an sum to the numerical value 786 in the system of Abjad numerals. Not all Muslims place emphasis on this numerological analysis; however, some â mostly in Pakistan, India, Myanmar and Bangladesh â use 786 as a substitute for Bismillah ("In the name of Allah" or "In the name of God")

----------------

The total value of the letters of "Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim" according to one Arabic system of numerology is 786. There are two methods of arranging the letters of the Arabic alphabet. One method is the most common alphabetical order (used for most ordinary purposes), beginning with the letters Alif ا, ba ب, ta ت, tha ث etc. The other method is known as the Abjad numerals' method or ordinal method. In this method the letters are arranged in the following order: Abjad, Hawwaz, Hutti, Kalaman, Sa'fas, Qarshat, Sakhaz, Zazagh; and each letter has an arithmetic value assigned to it from one to one thousand. (This arrangement was done, most probably in the 3rd century of Hijrah during the 'Abbasid period, following the practices of speakers of other Semitic languages such as Aramaic, Hebrew, Syriac, Chaldean etc.)

Taking into account the numeric values of all the letters of the Basmala, according to the Abjad order, the total is 786. In the Indian subcontinent the Abjad numerals have become quite popular. Some people, mostly in India and Pakistan, use 786 as a substitute for Bismillah ("In the name of Allah" or "In the name of God"). They write this number to avoid writing the name of God, or Qur'anic verses on ordinary papers, which can be subject to dirt or come in contact with unclean materials. This practice does not date from the time of Muhammad and is not universally accepted by Muslims.

The numerical significance of Bismillah has been elaborated in a book called Beyond Probablity and is based on number 19. Beyond Probability - God's Message in Mathematics. Series 1: The Opening Statement of the Quran (The Basmalah)

People's Republic of China?

Q. CHINA
PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

Head of state: Hu Jintao
Head of government: Wen Jiabao
Death penalty: retentionist
International Criminal Court: not ratified

An increased number of lawyers and journalists were harassed, detained, and jailed. Thousands of people who pursued their faith outside officially sanctioned churches were subjected to harassment and many to detention and imprisonment. Thousands of people were sentenced to death or executed. Migrants from rural areas were deprived of basic rights. Severe repression of Uighurs in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region continued, and freedom of expression and religion continued to be severely restricted in Tibet and among Tibetans elsewhere.

International community
Before China's election to the new UN Human Rights Council, it made a number of human rights-related pledges, including ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and active co-operation with the UN on human rights. Chinese companies continued to export arms to countries where they were likely to be used for serious human rights abuses, including Sudan and Myanmar.

Human rights defenders
The government crackdown on lawyers and housing rights activists intensified. Many human rights defenders were subjected to lengthy periods of arbitrary detention without charge, as well as harassment by the police or by local gangs apparently condoned by the police. Many lived under near constant surveillance or house arrest and members of their families were increasingly targeted. New regulations restricted the ability of lawyers to represent groups of victims and to participate in collective petitions.

⢠Gao Zhisheng, an outspoken human rights lawyer, had his law practice suspended in November 2005. He was detained in August 2006 and remained in incommunicado detention at an unknown location until his trial in December 2006. In October he was formally arrested on charges of "inciting subversion", and in December he was sentenced to three years' imprisonment, suspended for five years.

Journalists and Internet users
The government's crackdown on journalists, writers, and Internet users intensified. Numerous popular newspapers and journals were shut down. Hundreds of international websites remained blocked and thousands of Chinese websites were shut down. Dozens of journalists were detained for reporting on sensitive issues.

The government strengthened systems for blocking, filtering, and monitoring the flow of information. New regulations came into effect requiring foreign news agencies to gain approval from China's official news agency in order to publish any news. Many foreign journalists were detained for short periods.

Discrimination against rural migrants
Rural migrant workers in China's cities faced wide-ranging discrimination. Despite official commitment to resolve the problem, millions of migrant workers were still owed back pay. The vast majority were excluded from urban health insurance schemes and could not afford private health care. Access to public education remained tenuous for millions of migrant children, in contrast to other urban residents. An estimated

20 million migrant children were unable to live with their parents in the cities in part because of insecure schooling.

⢠Beijing municipal authorities closed dozens of migrant schools in September, affecting thousands of migrant children. While authorities claimed to have targeted unregistered and sub-standard schools, onerous demands made it nearly impossible for migrant schools to be registered. Some school staff believed the closures were aimed at reducing the migrant population in Beijing ahead of the 2008 Olympics.

Violence and discrimination against women
Violence and discrimination against women remained severe. The disadvantaged economic and social status of women and girls was evident in employment, health care and education. Women were laid off in larger numbers than men from failing state enterprises. Women accounted for 60 per cent of rural labourers and had fewer non-agricultural opportunities than men. The absence of gender-sensitive anti-HIV/AIDS policies contributed to a significant rise in female HIV/AIDS cases in 2006. Only 43 per cent of girls in rural areas completed education above lower middle school, compared with 61 per cent of boys.

Despite strengthened laws and government efforts to combat human trafficking, it remained pervasive, with an estimated 90 per cent of cases being women and children trafficked for sexual exploitation.

⢠Chen Guangcheng, a blind, self-trained lawyer, was sentenced in August to a prison term of four years and three months on charges of "damaging public property and gathering people to stop traffic". He had been arbitrarily confined to his home since September 2005 in connection with his advocacy on behalf of women undergoing forced abortions in Shandong Province. On appeal, the guilty verdict was overturned and the case sent back to the lower court for retrial, but the lower court upheld the original sentence.

Repression of spiritual and religious groups
The government continued to crack down on religious observance outside officially sanctioned channels. Thousands of members of underground protestant "house churches" and unofficial Catholic churches were detained, many of whom were ill-treated or tortured in detention. Members of the Falun Gong spiritual movement were detained and assigned to administrative detention for their beliefs, and continued to be at high risk of torture or ill-treatment.

⢠Bu Dongwei, a Falun Gong practitioner, was assigned to two and a half years' Re-education through Labour in June for "activities relating to a banned organization" after police discovered Falun Gong literature at his home. He had been working for a US aid organization when he was detained.

⢠Pastor Zhang Rongliang, an underground church leader who had been repeatedly detained and imprisoned since 1976, was sentenced in June to seven and a half years' imprisonment on charges of illegally crossing the border and fraudulently obtaining a passport.

Death penalty
The death penalty continued to be used extensively to punish around 68 crimes, including economic and non-violent crimes. Based on public reports, AI estimated that at least 1,010 people were executed and 2,790 sentenced to death during 2006, although the true figures were believed to be much higher.

The National People's Congress passed a law reinstating a final review of all death penalty cases by the Supreme People's Court from 2007. Commentators believed this would lead to a reduction in miscarriages of justice and use of the death penalty.

Executions by lethal injection rose, facilitating the extraction of organs from executed prisoners, a lucrative business. In November a deputy minister announced that the majority of transplanted organs came from executed prisoners. In July new regulations banned the buying and selling of organs and required written consent from donors for organ removal.

⢠Xu Shuangfu, the leader of an unofficial Protestant group called "Three Grades of Servants", was executed along with 11 others in November after being convicted of murdering 20 members of another group, "Eastern Lightning", in 2003-4. Xu Shuangfu reportedly claimed that he had confessed under torture during police interrogation and that the torture had included beatings with heavy chains and sticks, electric shocks to the toes, fingers and genitals and forced injection of hot pepper, gasoline and ginger into the nose. Both the first instance and appeal courts reportedly refused to allow his lawyers to introduce these allegations as evidence in his defence.

Torture, arbitrary detention and unfair trials
Torture and ill-treatment remained widespread. Common methods included kicking, beating, electric shocks, suspension by the arms, shackling in painful positions, cigarette burns, and sleep and food deprivation. In November a senior official admitted that at least 30 wrongful convictions handed down each year resulted from the use of torture, with the true number likely being higher. There was no progress in efforts to reform the Re-education through Labour system of administrative detention without charge or trial. Hundreds of thousands of people were believed to be held in Re-education through Labour facilities across China and were at risk of torture and ill-treatment. In May 2006, the Beijing city authorities announced their intention to extend their use of Re-education through Labour as a way to control "offending behaviour" and to clean up the city's image ahead of the Olympics.

⢠Ye Guozhu was sentenced to four years' imprisonment in 2004 for his opposition to forced evictions in Beijing associated with construction for the Olympic games. It emerged during 2006 that Ye had been tortured while in detention. He was reportedly suspended from the ceiling by the arms and beaten repeatedly by police in Dongcheng district detention centre, Beijing, and also reportedly tortured in another prison in the second half of 2005.

Uighurs in the Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region
Government authorities in Xinjiang continued to severely repress the Uighur community and to deny their human rights, including freedom of religion and access to education. An increased number of Uighurs were extradited to China from Central Asia, reflecting growing pressure by China on governments in the region. Seventeen Uighurs remained in detention in Guantánamo Bay.

⢠The family of exiled former prisoner of conscience Rebiya Kadeer continued to be targeted by the Chinese authorities. On 26 November her son Ablikim Abdiriyim, detained in Xinjiang awaiting trial on charges of "subversion" and tax evasion, was seen being carried out of Tianshan District Detention

Centre, apparently in need of medical attention. On 27 November her sons Alim and Kahar Abdiriyim were fined heavily and Alim sentenced to seven years' imprisonment on charges of tax evasion.

⢠Husein Celil, a Canadian citizen who fled China in the 1990s as a refugee, was arrested in Uzbekistan and extradited to China in June. He was reportedly accused of "terrorism" and denied access to family or consular representatives.

Tibetans
Tibetans in the Tibet Autonomous Region and other areas experienced severe restrictions on their rights to freedom of religious belief, expression and association, and discrimination in employment. Many were detained or imprisoned for observing their religion or expressing opinions, including Tibetan Buddhist monks and nuns. Excessive use of force against Tibetans seeking to flee repression in Tibet continued. In September witnesses saw Chinese border patrol guards shooting at a group of Tibetans attempting to reach Nepal. At least one child was confirmed killed.

⢠Woeser, a leading Tibetan intellectual, had her weblog shut down several times after she raised questions about China's role in Tibet.

⢠Sonam Gyalpo, a former monk, was sentenced to 12 years' imprisonment in mid-2006 for "endangering state security" after the authorities found videos of the Dalai Lama and other "incriminating materials" in his house. His family learned of his trial and sentencing when they tried to visit him in detention.

North Korean refugees
Approximately 100,000 North Koreans were reportedly hiding in China. The authorities arrested and deported an estimated 150-300 each week without ever referring cases to UNHCR, the UN refugee agency. They also reportedly implemented a system of rewards for turning in North Koreans and heavy fines for supporting them. In September a new crackdown was reported on North Koreans residing illegally in China.

Abuse of North Korean women in China was widely reported, including cases of systematic rape and prostitution. North Korean women were reportedly sold as brides to Chinese men for between US$880 and US$1,890. Some women knew they were being sold into marriage but did not know how harsh conditions in China would be. Others were lured across the border by marriage brokers posing as merchants.

Hong Kong Special Administrative Region
All 14 South Koreans charged with "unlawful assembly" after protesting outside World Trade Organization meetings in December 2005 were acquitted in early 2006, sparking renewed calls for an independent inquiry into the actions of the police during the protests.

The UN Human Rights Committee and the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women reviewed the human rights situation in Hong Kong in March and August respectively. Both made several recommendations for reform.

In September, the Hong Kong Court of Appeal upheld a lower court ruling that laws providing a higher age of consent for sexual relations for gay men than for heterosexuals were discriminatory. The authorities announced that they would not appeal the case further.

Asylum-seekers continued to be refused entry without adequate consideration of their claims. Others were detained for over-staying their visas or other immigration offences. Despite lobbying from human rights and social welfare groups, the authorities confirmed that there were no plans to extend the UN Refugee Convention to Hong Kong. The authorities began to offer limited welfare assistance to asylum-seekers after UNHCR ceased its funding in May, but this was reportedly insufficient to meet basic needs.

Next time you post something like this, with facts and figures, post a link so people can check it out to make sure its legit, based on current events, and not more china bashing.

When you do, then I'll check it out.

============================

Now you supplied a link, but the great cyber wall here in China won't let me get there.

China censors China hate sites plus pornography.

Keep this in mind, the Amnisties Internationals organizations depend on donations to survive. I've often wondered just how much they embellish the facts on that alone. It behooves one to look very closely at their board of directors, what they are getting paid, what percentage goes to public education, who they interview, are they seeking the other sides arguments without predisposition, --- in short, is it tabloid journalism, or is it really true. Plus, how current is it?

Should I be worried with a celebrity gossip obsessed boyfriend?

celebrity gossip heat
on ODD Gossip - Celebrity Gossip & Candids
celebrity gossip heat image

blink387

My bf and I are together for almost two years. Great relationship, hardly ever fighting. Great plans for future. We're both in our late 20's, mature, with a job and good education. It has always bothered me for some reason, his obsession of celebrity gossip.

For some reason he just loves to know and read about celebrity gossip. I do too, when I'm bored, but never follow it especially not on a daily basis. On the other hand, its an everyday obbession with him with everything from model galleries, to dumb gossip and plastic surgeries.

Since I am a pretty petite girl, natural and simple, in great shape. I like to dress simple, classy and professional. I dont like anything fake or bright bold colors. But when I jokingly asked about how he would feel about me getting a boob job or any type of plastic surgery. He simply said that he'd support me and sees no problem with girls wanting to get plastic surgery. He said he wouldnt stop me from anything. I feel he looks at all this stuff and makes him feel as if all of this "fake" stuff is normal and a girl should always look busty and hot. I tried talking to him and all he says is that he loves me for who I am and thats is that. I dont feel like I will satisfy him in the end since he already has an image of what a girl should look like drawn in his mind. There's always going to be "those" girls he desires. I dont like how he likes "fake" girls and enjoys looking at these galleries and celebrities every single day. I am not sure if guys do this just for fun or if he is doing this because he actually enjoys it. The more and more I think about it, the more insecure I get in my mind.

Before this gets out of hand in my mind, someone please explain this.

Thanks,!

Answer
Talk to him about it and tell him how much it's bothering you. Explain how gay men usually obsess over the shallow world of celebrity, by reading magazines like Heat or Closer etc and check the websites. So it's a bit strange that he's doing this and becoming as shallow as these celebrities.

He needs to live in the real world and focus on more important things. Maybe his female colleagues at work talk about it all the time, so he does it a lot as a result.

He may or may not want to change, but you have to bring it up before it drives you apart.

I hope he tries to change, but if he doesn't then you may have to reconsider dating him, good luck.

how can i get curled hair like this quickly?

bumblebeee

http://www.celebrity-gossip.net/images/thumbnails/selena-gomez-459-1.jpg

Answer
Need:
a curling iron, either a 1/2inch iron or a full inch iron, and bobby pins

Take 2-4 inch pieces of your hair, spray heat protector on that piece and wrap around the iron

Hold for 10-15 seconds

Unwind from iron and twist the hair in into a circle while still hot and pin to head

Do entire head like that. Then do your makeup or something.

Once your hair has cooled take the pins out and carefully brush curls in to the desired style. Brush with fingers first, then very, very, carefully use a paddle brush to blend the curls in to each other. You are going to want to brush back, to get the Selena Gomez look you want.

It may take you a few times to get it down just right for your hair type.

Good Luck

Tamilians : What is your favourite Weekly and why?

popular news magazines in india

popular news magazines in india image

The "BULL"

Kumudam
Ananda Vikatan
Kunkumam
Kalki
Or any other

Answer
Vikadan, Kumutham, Kalki used to be my favourites.

Now - with immense sadness -
I hate them
because

as leading, popular magazines
they have
their inalienable birth-right & inviolable duty
to contribute
towards the development
of Tamizh people and their language, arts, and culture ...
but

they are deliberately destroying the Thamizh Mozhi
through their shameless use of English words in place of Thamizh words.

They have also been sowing the seeds of 'cultural' decadence
among the teen-agers and the youth -
thereby digging the grave
for Thamizh cultural norms. (Thamizh PaNpa:du)

'The fence is eating the crops !'

' Ve:li payitai me:ikirathu !' What an indelible, criminal SHAME !

Our powerful, influential, trend-setting media
( News papers / Magazines / TV / Radio / Films)
have, over the past three decades, been viciously and systematically destroying
our great language with 'missionary' zeal ...

They are not Thamizh media.
They are 'Thaminglish' media.

" Oh Fate, what do you propose to do to the Thamizh race ?"

"Vithiye: vithiye: Thamizh cha:thiyai en seya ninaiththai ?" (Paatathiyaar)

Result :
In another 150 years, there will be no 'Thamizh' in India.

Need of the hour :
Every self-respecting Thamizh makan and Thamizh makalh
must become
a 'Maraimalai Adikalh' !

Post Script :

tha:i mozhiyai tha:zhththiduva:n, valhata vida:n,
tha;i tha:li aruththvatku ne:r !

Answer
Mallika Sherawat (born October 24, 1981 as Reema Lamba in Rohtak, Haryana, India) is an Indian actress and model. She has a degree in philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University.

Sherawat's birth name is Reema Lamba; she adopted the screen name of "Mallika", meaning "empress", to avoid confusion with other actresses named Reema. "Sherawat" is her mother's maiden name. She uses her mother's name as a tribute to her mother's love and support.
Personal Life

She has been married to and is now divorced from Karan Singh Gill, a pilot.
Career

Mallika became popular for her show of skin and several kisses in her movie Khwahish (2003] which was, by Indian standards quite scandalous, as it featured seventeen on-screen kisses. Later that year, she starred in Murder, again a film with raised questions, since she showed a lot of skin. [1]. For Murder, she was nominated in the 'Best Actress' category in the Zee Cine Awards. She has also been in the news for a short appearance in a Jackie Chan film, The Myth. She appeared at the Cannes film festival in a revealing outfit as part of the publicity for the film [2].

In July 2004, the Bollywood film producers' union IMPAA temporarily blacklisted Mallika. Filmmaker Ramesh Sharma complained that she had committed breach of contract when she failed to turn up, as promised, for the filming of Kab Kyun Kahan (started in 1999). [3]

Mallika, who has earned her reputation by shocking the Indian middle class, was the first Indian woman to get an offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine. She refused the offer, citing her morals and upbringing.

MD 80 crash/fire in Madrid.2 crashed in 1997 out of 934 MD80 in service. Is this crash rate unacceptably high?

Operational history
In August 2008, a total of 934 MD-80 aircraft (all variants) were in airline service, including American Airlines (304), Delta Air Lines (118), Alitalia (74), Scandinavian Airlines System (44), and Allegiant Air (35). Other operators fly fewer numbers of the type.[4]

16 August 2005; West Caribbean Airways MD82; near Machiques, Venezuela: The aircraft was on an international flight from Panama City, Panama to Martinique when the crew reported to air traffic control that the aircraft was experiencing some kind of engine problem and requested a descent from cruising altitude of 33,000 feet down to 14,000 feet. The crew later reported that both engines were experiencing problems and that the aircraft was not controllable. All eight crew members and 152 passengers were killed.
Fatal Events for Airlines from Latin America and the Caribbean

16 September 2007; One-Two-Go Airlines MD82; Phuket, Thailand: The aircraft was on a scheduled domestic flight from Bangkok (DMK) to Phuket (HKT). After landing, the aircraft skidded off the runway, impacted several trees, and caught fire. There was reportedly heavy rain and poor visibility at the time of the crash. There were at least 89 deaths, including 85 of the 123 passengers and five of the seven crew members.
Fatal Events Involving Asian Airlines

30 November 2007; Atlasjet MD83; near Keciborlu, Turkey: The plane was on a domestic flight from Istanbul to Isparta when it disappeared from radar screens. The crew had requested permission to land shortly before the aircraft crashed in mountainous terrain near the town of Keciborlu, about 12km (7.5 miles) from the Isparta airport. All seven crew members and 50 passengers were killed.

20 August 2008; Spanair MD82; Madrid, Spain: The aircraft crashed shortly after attempting a takeoff for a scheduled domestic flight from Madrid to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. Early reports indicate that one of the engines caught fire during the takeoff, the aircraft became airbore, and that the crew set the aircraft down in a area to the right of the departure runway. The aircraft broke up and caught fire.

Should read 2 MD 80s crashed in one year, 2007 (not 1997).

Answer
No. The MD-80 / DC-9 series, like the B-737 were (are) built for high frequency operation to smaller airports. Whereas the ratio of MD80/90/DC-9's vs. say, the 747, is probably 10-1, the MD-80s will make probably 20-30 take-off and landings for every takeoff and landing done by a B-747. A B-747 will almost always use a 10-12,000 foot runway whereas an MD80 will very often find itself taking off on a 6,500' runway.

So yes, more MD80's have crashed than have say, Dassault Mercures (aircraft designed for similar roles) but look at the number of aircraft built, hours flown, take-offs and landings made, etc.

And actually, many more MD80's have crashed in 2007 (and 1997 for that matter) than you point out. A crash doesn't necessarily require flaming debris and scores of dismembered bodies. More often than not, the crew and PAX walk away from these unsensational accidents but we don't read about it because itâs not very exciting news. (Senator Obama's MD80 almost fell apart in midair and lost control just last month. We only heard about that because Obama was on board)

Is Europe going to lift their flight restrictions or not? The contradicting news is confusing!?

Lea

I keep seeing that the airlines are calling it a European "mess" and that they are pushing the ministers to open airspace even if that ash cloud remains there. The scientists are all saying it is still not safe. what gives? I am set to fly to Europe (Amsterdam) Friday and I can say that even if they lift the restrictions I am still scared to death of going. My husband is not worried and thinks we will be able to fly but I just want to cancel until we figure out what is going on.
It seems it is economic related. Cant they find a way to get stranded people back home without planes. Cant they use ships? I hate to say this...and I KNOW it has an economic impact but I do not think that lives are worth being lost over the risk. Sure, the test flights may have gone well but there only has to be that ONE plane that gets the glass/sand mixture into their engines and it will crash. That is like knowing there is a terrorist on the loose and knowing he will be on a plane in the next few days and still continuing to fly. Would you want it to be YOUR plane he was on?
I think the airlines need to put safety first.

Answer
I agree with Fifi here. KLM flew a 737 through the cloud yesterday very successfully, however, today and F-16 ruined its engine flying through it because of glass particles in the air. So, no airline in their right mind is going to risk flying through the dust cloud when they are not certain if that cloud will be harmless or completely destroy an engine. In 1989, a KLM 747 flew through a dust cloud and all four engines stalled. They later started them, but only after scaring the crap out of all passengers on board. Every airline wants to fly again, but none of them wants to be the airline that crashed because they couldn't wait until it was safe.

A friend of mine was featured in Yahoo news in October 12th, and he wants to get a printout of the home page then. Does Yahoo have their old pages and news cached? How can they be accessed?

Answer
Yes, you can do this via the wayback machine: http://web.archive.org/collections/web/advanced.html

I tried to find October 12th for you, but it looks like it only archives pages from 2005 at the latest. You may be able to toy around with it and figure it out though.

How do police department handle the news and media when information incorrect?

Jen Lori A

I mean police want to get information first and know it all answers before news people has it.

But let say information was different story from news and what police department has.

How would police knows if media did change the story or they got information first before police and information are needed for police to complete crime reports.

What about court? Do they get evidence from police or from news reporters?

Example: police arrest one murder and police are sure it's only one person not more, but newspaper and television news had proof that there is two killers. What police do?

It would ruin police, prosecutors and invesigators because from same crime two different proofs.

Answer
Media makes up stories they don't need any proof. They are not a court of law. Police need evidence to prove a crime and who did it. Media still has Martians killing JFK that doesn't make it proof. Proof is evidence that is accurately obtained not a reporter making up some fiction. For example, a local boy 12 years old was kidnapped according to local paper. 3 days later he was found and he was 14 YEARS OLD! I guess you would say that the experience aged him. But no the paper just made up something to fill space. They don't care about facts, just need to fill paper or have a sound bite.

how different is the celebrity status from today and the old days?

judes_325

just wondering how we look at celebrities today in comparison to celebrities back in the days like years before the 90's or before the digital age?
it'll be really appreciated if you could give me some evidence in ur answers like websites/articles :)

Answer
Nothing can compare with the 24/7 coverage of stars, or things like TMZ where Paparazzi do nothing but follow stars in and out of cars and clubs, etc.

But looking back, even in the 1920's when movie idol Rudolph Valentino died, thousands tried to attend his funeral. Movie stars like Clark Gable were often pursued by fans.. Marilyn Monroe and others were followed by the tabloids of the time, movie magazines. Elvis, the Beatles, and other stars were constantly surrounded if they went out of their houses or were seen in public. The many marriages of Elizabeth Taylor in the 50's, 60's and 70's were constantly in the gossip pages and magazines. Echoes of when popular singer Eddie Fisher broke up with actress and singer Debbie Reynolds for movie 'goddess' Elizabeth Taylor, in the late 50's could be seen and heard in the break up of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston over Angelina Jolie.

It is nothing new, there are just more outlets today to follow and even harass stars and there seems to be more everyday.
