how do I get a local news show to do a story on my business?

jhnyblayze

I am getting ready to start a new business. I have seen morning news shows do a story on other local businesses and I was wondering how I go about getting them to do one on mine. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Answer
I would suggest you look at your business just as you would with composing a business plan.

Make a list of all the things you are doing that are not done elsewhere.

Then take these examples and combine them with other trends in the area or nation, and especially events reported on the news.

If national marketing statistics indicate a new or renewed interest in your business, then combine this information with visual examples to interest a news team.

If I knew about your business, I might be able to help more. But just as an example: Heading into Recession, pawn shops and betting parlors are becoming more popular, as are used-clothing outlets and swap shops.

These might be local businesses which are different and newsworthy.

Just opening a hairdressing shop like any other hairdressing shop would not be of interest, and most likely will be on the list of businesses feeling the economic pinch with fewer customers each month.

With restaurants expected to close due to the economic downturn, then what is being done at this restaurant to blunt the impact?

Once you have put your finger on something newsworthy, then contact the local newspaper and television stations with your news tip. For the newspaper, make sure you contact the type of reporter (business, lifestyle, science, environmental etc.) who might be interested.

Hope this these examples and this answer helps you.

I want to subscribe to a magazine but I don't know which one to subscribe to. I'm a girl, I'm 20 years old, and I don't care about disney channel and pop stars. I listen to more rock than I do anything else. I like quizzes and stories, and I like make up and fashion tips, but i don't care about the latest celebrity gossip. I already subscribe to seventeen but the other magazines like this seem too young for me. Any suggestions with descriptions of the magazine would help. Thanks!

Answer
Well I have got two magazines for you.

Paper Planes
Description: Paper Planes is a magazine with precocious, vibrant, colourful and with an unapologetic rock ân roll sensibility

and

Rolla Coaster

What is the difference between Teen Vogue and Vogue magazine?

Annabelle

They're targeted to the same age group, teenagers, right? You see, like everyone else in the world, I want to make the best of the money I have. I looked on their websites and other than prices (Teen Vogue being 50 cents each on a subscription and Vogue $1.25) I really don't see any difference between the two. What are they specifically about? Celebrity gossip dishes, quizzes, makeup tips, self-help, ect?

Answer
Teen Vogue is, essentially a "teenage version of Vogue". It depends on your age, I suppose. If you're aged between 12-15, perhaps the Teen Vogue might be a better option for you as it features teen beauty, teen fashion, etc.
I would probably think that "Vogue" would be more suitable if you're a little older as they focus on more high-end fashion, beauty etc.

You can read about Teen Vogue at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teen_Vogue

You could also check out the Vogue website / Teen Vogue website and see which you think might be more suitable for you.

Will Mac's growth make it a bigger target?

By Will Sturgeon, Silicon.com
Published on ZDNet News: August 2, 2006, 6:29 AM PT

A recent upturn in Apple's sales of its Mac computers has added fuel to concerns the Mac community's days of claiming a secure upper-hand may be numbered.

Last week it was revealed that Apple's shipments of its Mac machines had shown double digit growth, year-on-year, with analysts suggesting the growth is set to continue with more PC switchers in the pipeline.

And while that is great news for Apple and its marketing prowess, it has coincided with the question of Mac security rearing its head once more, with three large security vendors issuing words of warning for the Mac faithful while Apple remains tight-lipped about the security of its machines.

Mark Sunner, CTO of MessageLabs, said: "Now, as Macs become more popular, we're seeing an increase in attacks targeting OS X." Greg Day, senior antivirus researcher at McAfee, said his company's recent Global Threat Report found evidence to support that claim.

Day told silicon.com: "Microsoft has the biggest bull's-eye on it but there's a lot of interest in Apple right now. There have been more vulnerabilities discovered in OS X than in XP over the past two years."

Day said 95 vulnerabilities have been discovered in XP during that time compared to 238 in OS X.

Jay Heiser, research VP at Gartner, said he would expect to see the risks from owning a Mac increase with popularity and a greater market share. "The relative 'safety' of the Mac environment is not so much an issue of obscurity, as it is a lack of hack-leverage and perhaps biological diversity," said Heiser. "From the attacker's point of view, the bigger the set of logically identical targets, the bigger the payoff in creating 'crimeware.'

"Clearly, as the number of Macs increase, it becomes more appealing to target them."

Heiser added: "The most important consideration is the amount of code. The level of vulnerability is a function of the size of the code-base and it is inevitable that the Mac OS contains a significant number of unrecognized vulnerabilities."

Last week Russian antivirus vendor Kaspersky Labs also waded in to the Mac security debate, with its own findings reporting a similar hike in the number of vulnerabilities found in OS X. And while vulnerabilities and actual proven exploits are very different things, Kaspersky Labs echoed the concerns of others, saying 60 vulnerabilities discovered in the first half of 2006 suggests if growing popularity were to invite more attacks this could soon become a problem.

McAfee's Day also criticized Apple for being slow to address these vulnerabilities--adding that Microsoft, albeit due to an unflattering history of vulnerabilities, is at least largely on top of the situation.

He said: "I think Apple has not been as organized as Microsoft has had to be through necessity at dealing with vulnerabilities."

At the time of writing Apple had failed to comment.

Apple fixes 26 Mac OS flaws

By Joris Evers, CNET News.com
Published on ZDNet News: August 2, 2006, 5:25 AM PT

Apple Computer issued on Tuesday updates for its Mac OS X operating system to fix 26 security flaws, some serious.

Several of the vulnerabilities affect the way in which Mac OS X handles images and the file-sharing capabilities of the software, according to an Apple security advisory. Other flaws were found and fixed within components such as Fetchmail, file compression features, and DHCP networking functionality, Apple said.

The vulnerabilities could enable a variety of attacks, security company Symantec said in an advisory sent out to customers of its DeepSight intelligence service. "Remote attackers can execute arbitrary code, trigger denial-of-service conditions, elevate privileges, and disclose potentially sensitive information," Symantec said.

Apple credits a number of security researchers with finding the flaws. These include researchers employed by Google and Mozilla, as well as Tom Ferris, a freelance security researcher who has disclosed limited information on some Apple bugs in the past.

The bulk of the Mac OS X flaws affect both the client and server versions of the operating system. Attackers could exploit several of the vulnerabilities, specifically those related to image processing and file compression, by crafting malicious files and tricking people into opening them, Apple said. This attack method is seen often on computers that run Microsoft's Windows operating system.

A handful of flaws related to file sharing, handled by the Mac OS X AFP server, could expose user data or let a malicious user gain elevated privileges a system running Mac OS X or cause a crash, Apple said.

The update also increases the length of the passkey used for pairing Bluetooth devices with Mac computers, Apple said. This could provide enhanced security for the use of Macs with wireless devices that use Bluetooth technology.

Mac OS X users are urged to upgrade in order to protect their systems against possible attacks that may exploit the flaws. Symantec said that it doesn't know of current attack code for any of the issues, though some may not require specific exploit code, the company said.

Apple has released Security Update 2006-004 to address the issues. The update is available from the Software Update pane in System Preferences on Mac OS X systems or through Apple's Web site. Until now, Apple's most recent security update came out in late June.

I have been disconnected from the newspapers, TV, and Internet for three weeks, and all of a suddent there's something huge going on with Hezzbolla and Isreal. It so confusing trying to read the latest news when I don't have the background knowledge of what has already happened. So... can anyone clue me in on the basics?

Answer
Hez killed 8 Israeli soldiers and kidnapped 2.
That was the last straw broke the the camel's back for Israel b/c they have been attacked by rockets for years.
This time Israel decided to end it for good, so they are smashing the So. Lebanon.
But Hez are so woven into Leb's civilians, the casuality rate is very high.
And to cut off the supply from Syria and Iran, Israel had to bomb airport and bridges and more...

Now that's a short version.

Hope it helps.

When countries send weapons into a country like Syria to overthrow an dictator why not clean up after?

Isn't there some way these people could track all these weapons we have sent ? Now in Libya we have the problem that all the weapons we sent in to help are being used against us or going to the wrong hands. Same will happen with Syria. What can be done about this?
Isn't there some way they could gps these weapons and track and get them or destroy them?

Answer
Many people do not understand what the Arab spring is. Some understand but just tie it to things: they do not like, or they fear, or they have interest in, which is not fair for normal Arab people. Arab spring is where normal Arab people rebelled against corruption, discrimination, opportunistic, living under slavery of dictators and their families and relatives. Arab spring has nothing to do with the outside world or others outside the Arab states except oppositions living in exile/s. The Arab spring has nothing to do with religions and religious issues. Arabs, for the first time, were able through the web such as facebook and Twitter to organize large demonstrations against Dictators.

⢠First : (TUNISIA)
Arab Spring started in Tunisia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_Bouazizi
Google: mohamed bouazizi

⢠Last : (SYRIA)
Because of the extreme fear and intimidation Syrians lived with for 42 years. Under the same illegal, racial, criminal, most ugly regime in the world. The last Arab state that joined the Arab spring was Syria.
The last uprising against this regime was in the 1982. Where the last Illegal president Hafez Assad and his brother killed 40.000 Syrians to appease them and destroyed the city of Hamah.

Google : Hamah city.
bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-19331551

The current uprising started In the Syrian city of Daraâa on the border with Jordan. Where some kids, influenced by the TVâs news of the Arab spring in other Arab states, wrote things on a wall where the kids were forcefully taken from their parents, imprisoned, tortured, their nails were taken of, and at the beginning refused to free them under any circumstances. As a result their parents rebelled and some of them were shot died by the regime. This resulted the uprising to start and escalate in many other areas of Syria.
For many months, the regime as used to in the last 42 years, used extreme force, torture, and direct killing. against peaceful protestors and accused them of all kind of bad accusations, banned the international media from entering Syria and converted it into a large prison. All that resulted in the escape of soldiers with their arms from the army and established small armed groups to protect civilians. Later, armed struggle against the regime started after months of daily killing of civilians and no help of any kind from outside Syria.

By now over 30.000 were killed, 100s of thousands in prisons, women have been raped by the regime, Kids and babies have been slaughtered, millions fled the country, cities have been destroyed by most sophisticated arms. The Syrian regime even, have been bullying, harassing, and threatening Syrians and/or others around the world who opposed. Unfortunately, still there is nobody really helping to stop the massacres until now.

Iran has been helping the regime by influencing Russia and china in the UN, supplying the regime with arms and skillful Iranian soldiers.

During this uprising, the ruling regime have been killing civilian and telling the world that they have been fighting terrorists. The same way did in the last 42 years of tutoring under the lie that they were fighting Israel and America. Anybody opposed that lie was taken, tortured, considered traitor and executed.

Al-Baâath party has 2 branches, one ruling Syria under Al-Assad and the other was ruling Iraq under Saddam Husain with the same ideology and ideas.

The Syrian story started with the father (Hafez Assad) who came from the poor alawate village (Qardaha) on the Syrian coast. He wanted to study medicine but he couldnât because he was too poor. He went to the military school and later he and his colleagues in Al-Baâath party illegally and forcefully overthrew the government and took over the power in Syria. Then, Assad imprisoned those colleagues until they died in prisons and controlled Syria alone with his family and made Syria the only Apartheid Arab state. Alawates from Qardaha and other Alawate villages invaded the Syrian cities like Locusts and controlled all kind of high positions in Syria. The way they speak has a tune and some special words and this distinguished them. Syrians feared them to death whenever they are because they know that they are above the law. Directly after Hafez Assad passed away, the constitution was altered and his son Bashar inherited illegally the presidency of Syria and the regime remained the same. Now, Al-Assad family and cousins and relatives control absolutely everything in Syria, and they are one of the richest worldwide and that one reason why they do not want to leave power. The other reason is that they are alawate, a religious group who follow the Shia (Iran) in Islam; and that why Iran is unconditionally supporting them.

Anyone supports the ruling regime to stay more time in power in Syria is either one of them or opportunistic after some kind of personal benefits, otherwise no real Syrian accepts what they did to Syrians in the last 42 Years.

I need to know what kind of cupcakes I should serve, but I can't make them from scratch. They have to be the kind from a box. What should I do? Instructions and ideas please. Also, i'm going as Leighton Meester. We also have Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, and Sandra Bullock. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Oooh, that sounds cool :) and I love Leighton Meester- she's so pretty and I love her hairbands in Gossip Girl <3

Is your party happening right now? I think you should go to a special cake shop, that specializes in cakes and you could ask them to make you some cupcakes with the flavours and style you want. Like for the cupcakes with Leighton Meester, you could have a hairband made out of purple icing on it, to symbolizesher character in Gossip Girl. Do you get what I'm saying?

I live in London and we have two high street but expensive shops called Selfridges and Harrods and there they already have loads of cupcakes made for any occasion and they're gorgeous. You should try like a shop like that too.

Good luck and have fun xoxo

Why do people care whether or not Lady Gaga is indeed a lady?

Q.

Answer
They shouldn't care at all. I've seen plenty of videos before she was even famous, and she didn't look like a man. With the outfits she wears, people would be able to tell if she has a penis. She clearly has a vagina in those tight suits she wears. It's just people like to gossip, and it's usually haters that say the worst shit about a celebrity.

Is being an English teacher a good job to do in China?

celebrity gossip the sun
on The Moon That Embraces the Sun
celebrity gossip the sun image

.

I was just wondering if I got the qualifications to become an English teacher in China and went there to teach if I would be dissapointed by the standard of living that I was now living by. Is being an English teacher considered a good job in China? Would my income be higher or lower than the average Chinese citizen? Would life be harder for me? How welcoming is the Chinese society to foreigners working in their country? Would I face a lot of prejudice or discrimination? Are English teachers in high demand in China? Would I easily be able to get a job working there?

Answer
Qualifications: They say they want a bachelor's degree (in anything). But even that is not always needed if you don't want to be in a top University or Beijing. Also you can forge a degree very simply and do fine.

Salary for Universities is between 4-6000 rmb a month. This is enough to live very comfortably and go on holidays during holidays. it's not tons but it's enough as they will also give you a house to live in and usualy free water, electricity, internet and such.

Living Standard: It is a developing country, if you arne't in one of the major cities (5-6 Million people or more) don't expect any good Western food or very many Western people to talk to. Your students wont respect you as a teacher but will be happy to be your friend if you want. Your classes will be edutaining, not educating. China wants people who can make their stuents happy so be funny and entertain a little at least. If you are in one of the major cities you'll have lots of good food and such things. However it is still going to be dirty, loud, smelly and rude. Such is life in China.

Teachers are respected in China but foriegner teachers are only respected partially, they are also considered the lowest of the foriegners, so you'll be treated very well to your face but they will talk about you behind your back. Too many foriegn teachers here just to get girls and live a better life than back at home sadly.

Life here is as hard as you want to make it. If you learn a little Chinese and can be relaxed about living in a country where dirt, poor people and massive crowds is a way of life, life here is very simple. But be honest with yourself what you are looking for. If you are looking for a better quality of life and a cleaner, healthy place, don't come here.

Chinese people are VERY welcoming to your face. You'll be treated well, inf act generally if you aren't in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen or soemwhere with a very large population fo foreigners you'll basically be treated like a celebrity. But with that comes a lot of gossip and some Chinese are incredibly... not racist.. just ignorant i think. they don't know anything about foreigners except what they've learned through their history classes which is basically all lies directed at making Chinese people very Nationalistic.

Prejudices and Discrimination: Are you white? Chinese LOVE white people. If you are Black, yeah you will face some. Black is the colour of the poor Chinese people becuase they work in the sun all day. It's getting better than it was but that's like saying living int he 1950's was better than the 1920's because Blacks weren't being lynched anymore...

Demand: There is always LOTS of demand for White people in teaching English. blacks have less but as long as you are a native speaker you'll still find work. Finding work isn't the hard part about living in China, for foreigners anyway.

Basically China is a land of Extremes. Some people are EXTREMELY in love with Western culture and Western people and some are EXTREMELY racist against anyone who is not Chinese. As a foreigner here it will seem that few people live between those extremes. There is an Extremely large number of people everywhere. But the people there are usually extremely helpful if you need it. It's extremely dirty in China, but it's also Extremely fun and a great time if you can ignore the flaws.

There are three types of teachers who come to China, 1) those who want a holiday, they tend to suck at teaching and make us all look terrible, if that's you, don't come. 2) Those who want to teach, they tend to be very serious about teaching, and while that sounds good, China is not serious. if you want serious teaching where you are respected as a teacher and your grades matter, don't come, you'll HATE it. 3) Those who want to learn a new culture and help people at the same time, These are the people who should come. Work hard in teaching, but make it fun as well as interesting otherwise you'll be very unhappy here.

Which newspaper would you reccomend I should read?

Do you use it ?

Answer
Twitter is a social networking site to communicate with others all around the world. You can tweet people, or send messages to them. Also, you can send DMs or Direct Messages, like Private Messages if the person is following you (you can only DM people who are following you). You can "follow" people like adding them, or subscribing to them to get their updates on your timeline. The more followers one has, the more popular that person is on twitter. People usually tweet/post just to get what's on their mind OFF of their mind or anything. And no, no one tweets stuff like "on the toilet" or anything. People say what they're doing WAY MORE on FACEBOOK than they do on TWITTER. It's good to use to get news and such. I usually find out about a lot of stuff from twitter, because celebrities tweet a lot and they have a lot of followers, so a lot of people know what they're saying. Also, there are TT's or Trending Topics, like what people are tweeting a lot and what's popular. And a hashtag, or the # sign with words after it (like #swag) is just like bolding something or italicizing or just a little tag like on youtube. I don't know why people do it on facebook, because clearly twitter is better than facebook...

Yes, I use it. (: http://www.twitter.com/lemonadachick

How do you use Twitter?

Sleep

I haven't made an account yet, but I seriously cannot understand how to use it at all!
Like I know RT means Re-tweet, and that's practically all I know. I don't even know what hashtags are/mean. Can anyone help me in helpful details and such

Answer
Its not as good as facebook. The only reason its so popular is because celebratys use it to flaunt their lifes to the world and theirfore it has had a lot of puplicity.

However I do use it sometimes to find out news.

Basically people put hashtag # then a word for instace 'cantsleep' and then if you click on the hashtag it takes you to a list of everyones tweets who have used that hashtag and 'cantsleep' lol.

People RT things I guess cause they like them just like you share things on facebook. Then it shows up on your page.

You 'follow' other people so whatever they tweet comes up on the main page. Then they can 'follow' you too.

Good luck in getting the hang of it!

This is a art assignment I have and was hoping to get some help in getting some ideas of what could describe our society now. I can only use pictures, no words in this assignment. Zeitgeist is german for spirit of the now, I need images that would give the viewer of these images an idea of the times we live in today. And I cannot do it on sports, anything else is fine though. So like whats popular in entertainment, the news, t.v., and music, and politics, things like that. So if anyone has any ideas for me please give some specific ideas of what kind of images I should look for. Thanks for the help! :)

Answer
I guess an obvious option would be to browse through modern photo magazines like Life, National Geographic, etc. or search Yahoo images using keywords like âcurrent eventsâ. You might also consider throwing in a Spencer Tunick photo, just for fun â and his work does carry at least some spirit of the times. He recently won a case in the US Supreme court that made it possible for him to do his work legally in the US. Just search Yahoo images for his name. I donât know if the link below will work, but it shows a lot of samples of his work. (It is just that page that came up when I searched on his name).

How do you feel that the Iranian President Ahmadinejad got elected in Iran?

caltam84

There were lots of protests going on in Iran as I saw the news. Sadly, there were some fatalities involved and lots of people injured from fighting.

What are you feelings towards that?

Answer
Fight for your freedom Iranians. Freedom to Iran.
The iranian government have constantly ignored Obama's helping hand to them,, it's no ones fault but their own. The iranian people don't want this, they want better relations with the west. They want freedom and freedom shall come soon.
Like Obama said, the protesters 'have been an
inspiration across the world'. It is their duty to stand up and fight for themselves and finally they are taking control of their rights. There voices will be heard. Now is the time. The time for change and freedom.

Look at these shocking pictures of riots and protests coming from inside Iran:

Mass rioting, marches and protests, the people of iran want change for the better.

Internet services blocked, Cell phone access blocked, websites like facebook, youtube, and yahoo messenger have all been blocked.
Western Journalists are being arrested and having their tapes seized from them. Iranians need to know what's going on in their own country. The government have ordered the foreign media to leave at once. They have banned all forien journalists from reporting in Iran. No filming or photographing is allowed. And without reporters on the streets, the militia force are allowed to be brutal to the iranian people. People have been shot and killed. All this under the brutal regime.

The majority of iranians oppose Ahmadinejad. They want freedom in their country and not a religious dictatorship and now they are finally taking this opportunity to stand up and fight for their rights no matter how long or how much it will take. The support from many across the world is overwhelming. They are not alone, The whole world is watching them. They have the support of many across the world.
You can keep uptodate with news regarding the situation on Twitter. I like many other people, have been posting links regarding information about what is happening inside Iran as because as you know they are being prevented access with information to the outside world.
Internet services blocked, Cell phone access blocked, websites like facebook, youtube, and yahoo messenger have all been blocked.

They deserve their voices to be heard and deserve there rights to protest without being murdered by this evil and corrupt regime led by, as many call, "the new satan" or Hitler-Ahmadniejad. They need to know. The world needs to know. And the amount of passion and courage they have shown is unbelievable. People risking their lives and being killed just by standing up and making themselves heard.

Keep up to date with the iran riot from people inside Iran on Twitter:

What are your (As Citizens of these countries) viewpoint's about the growing threat of North Korea?

Tyler

Every hour of everyday you read something in the news articles about North Korea threatening another country (particularly US, Japan and South Korea). Their threats have done nothing but increase over the months (years actually) without any strong response from these nations, except sanctions.

I think sanctions are somewhat the right approach, but at the same time we're hurting the innocent citizens of North Korea. Starving them.

Remember back in the 90's how some regimes started threatening other countries? The other countries didn't respond until they seen the regime were not talking anymore but killing. We had a chance to stop it before it got bad but we waited until it was too late...

We hear what the Gov't has to say but my questions to you are:

What are your viewpoint's on this situation?
How do you think we can stop the threats without war?
Do you think countries like Japan, US & SK should attack now to stop the growing dangers?
What do you think about North Korea threatening countries with "Preemptive Nuclear Strikes"?
Do you think war is the only solution? (I don't, especially nuclear!!)

I want to see and hear what you, the Citizens of these Countries have to say. Your voices matter and should always be heard!

Answer
Threats don't Impress me. Actions- Do. And I don't see N. Korea doing Anything- to back up Their Threats.

How is North Korea's currency reform fighting inflation?

frank x

I heard about the currency reform within North Korea a couple of days ago, and they said this is fighting inflation. How is it fighting inflation? I don't really understand why.
Also, this is not an action of lowering the exchange rate correct? It is a currency reform, is that the same with lowering the exchange rate?

Answer
North Korea revamped its national currency for the first time in 17 years, reports said Tuesday â a move that appeared aimed at reviving its dilapidated economy by curbing inflation and black market trading.

North Korea revalued its currency at an exchange rate between old and new notes of 100 to 1, China's Xinhua news agency said in a brief dispatch from Pyongyang. It cited a verbal notice Tuesday from North Korea's Foreign Ministry to foreign embassies in North Korea.

Residents began swapping old 1,000-won notes with 10-won notes on Monday, the Yonhap News Agency said in Seoul, citing unidentified North Korean traders operating in China. They told Yonhap the redenomination was aimed at fighting inflation and flushing out money traded on the black market.

North Korean authorities ordered residents to exchange their old notes by Wednesday, South Korean broadcaster YTN said in a similar report.

The mass-circulation Chosun Ilbo newspaper said the redenomination was to start from Tuesday, and speculated that the move is part of leader Kim Jong Il's way of tightening control over his nation's 24 million people as he prepares to hand over his power to one of his three known sons. The paper also cited unidentified sources in North Korea.

Officials at the National Intelligence Service and the Unification Ministry in Seoul said they couldn't immediately confirm the report.

It would be the impoverished communist country's first currency revamp since 1992, when North Korea issued new notes with the exchange rate set at 1:1. The regime implemented a similar currency redenomination in 1959.

Analysts called it a significant move toward economic reform for a nation with a stagnating economy and millions going hungry.

"The aim is to flush out money being traded on the black market and to reinvest it in the public sector â part of a bid to revitalize the economy. Broadly, it's aimed at building an economically prosperous nation," said Dong Yong-sueng, a senior fellow at Samsung Economic Research Institute in Seoul.

Pyongyang has set 2012 â the centenary of late North Korea founder Kim Il Sung's birth â as a goal for building a "prosperous" nation.

Koh Yu-hwan, a North Korea expert at Seoul's Dongguk University, also said the move was part of ongoing measures to reform the economy and open up to trade with the outside world.

Communist North Korea has relied on outside food handouts since the mid-1990s, when the economy collapsed due to natural disasters and mismanagement, and aid from the former Soviet Union dried up after the bloc's collapse.

The regime introduced economic reforms in 2002, including street and farmers' markets. But the government backtracked in 2006 after the reforms failed to revive the economy and resulted in an influx of foreign goods.

What was the deal agreed upon by Cyprus to stabilize their banks? Which depositors lost the most?

Answer
After nearly a week of uncertainty, the Cypriot parliament finally agreed on a bailout plan that will close its second-largest bank and seize funds from uninsured bank accounts. Cyprus rejected on Tuesday an EU plan requiring a tax of roughly ten percent on bank accounts above 100,000 euros, and a comparable but more modest figure on smaller accounts. The parliament was forced to revisit the offer after Russia rejected requests for aid. The final plan takes pressure off of small depositors:

Swiftly backed by euro zone finance ministers, the plan will spare the Mediterranean island a financial meltdown by winding down the largely state-owned Popular Bank of Cyprus, also known as Laiki, and shifting deposits below 100,000 euros to the Bank of Cyprus to create a âgood bankâ. Deposits above 100,000 euros in both banks, which are not guaranteed under EU law, will be frozen and used to resolve Laikiâs debts and recapitalize Bank of Cyprus through a deposit/equity conversion.

Cyprus government spokesman Christos Stylianides said the government will seize about 30 percent of the uninsured accounts. The funds are expected to raise 4.2 billion euros towards the 10 billion euro EU bailout. The plan will affect Russian accounts, which make up a large portion of Cyprusâ non-EU deposits. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev expressed anger over the deal, saying that âthe stealing of what has already been stolen continues.â German Chancellor Angela Merkel said she was âvery pleasedâ by the bailout, which is expected to save Cyprus from a crash that would have forced it out of the euro zone.

Question for a web developer with wptouch theme experience.?

GamerGeek

Hello I am currently working on a video blog where i post popular and news videos on a wordpress blog. My wordpress blog also has a plugin called wptouch which allows the blog to be viewed on mobile phones. My question is : Is there a way to get quicktime version of youtube videos and embed them to show in the wptouch theme? thanks!

Answer
âââââ

There is a cool app specially for editing and publishing videos to your website or blog.

I googled the official source of the cool app: http://www.web-video-player.com

Useful tutorial on google blog:

http://funny-video-youtube.blogspot.com

Anyway, you can also try to google the solution to your question.

Why do so many NEWS websites today have really bad performance?

So many popular news websites and blogs today have far too many features added into them to make them more dynamic but at the expense of accessibility. It's like they want to cram as much stuff into their website as possible and it's really starting to annoy me. It seems to be a trend with NEWS/MAGAZINE websites where they over populate every page with galleries, videos, pop-ups, pop-unders, sliders etc etc etc etc

A great example is the huffingtonpost website.

I have 120gig broadband with 8gig of ram on my laptop and even I struggle to load some of these over-populated webpages. I use the latest version of every browser but I still get the annoying 'Not Responding' notice when visiting these News/Magazine websites.

Have you noticed this annoying trend too?
I don't understand why they would do this? Any ideas?
@Batman
Sorry, I meant to say 120MB broadband. (Virgin Media's top package)

Answer
Yes, I find it very annoying. You may see some speedups if you install the Adblock Plus addon for Firefox.

I think its just the sites trying to monetize the traffic. They threw on a popup and realized it wasn't working so the solution was adding a bunch more popups and other bobbles.

If california & texas can effectively guard against illegals,so why does Arizona ...?

PROUD WHIT

has had such a hard time in securing its border with Mexico

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/lt_mexico_us_illegal_immigration;_ylt=AlLUt6YM99Ko5EjR4mUKgpfZa7gF;_ylu=X3oDMTNsdjY4b2Y0BGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAwNTE5L2x0X21leGljb191c19pbGxlZ2FsX2ltbWlncmF0aW9uBGNjb2RlA21vc3Rwb3B1bGFyBGNwb3MDNwRwb3MDNwRzZWMDeW5fdG9wX3N0b3JpZXMEc2xrA2ltbWlncmFudGNybw--

I wonder if it has to do w/ politicians secretly supporting illegal immigration, @ least in Pima County, where Tucson resides.

Answer
That's funny. "Ca. effectively guards against illegals" I am a retired Police Officer on the Ca. Az. Mexico border. There is fourteen miles of fence in San Diego County. Napolitano stopped the building of the three tier fence. Ca. spends between 10 and 15 billion a year just on welfare benefits to illegal aliens. The estimate in Ca. is three million illegal and the intercity of L.A. over one million. Los Angeles spends several million a month in benefits to illegals. Law enforcement apprehends one in five that come across the border illegally. Our Officers and the Officers of our neighboring cities have enforced immigration law for decades. Many times early in a shift we would detain an illegal and turn them over to the Border Patrol. The B.P. would process them and shove them back across the border. Later in that same shift we would again detain the very same illegal and turn them over again. Why do they have a hard time? We all have a hard time. The Tohono O'Odham Nation and Arizona asked this Administration and this Congress for help with this criminal problem. Obama responded by reducing the number of Border Patrol agents on the border by 180 agents. If you believe what Napolitano and Obama say about the border being more secure than it ever has been you are naive. I am here on the border and have done the job for 30 years. The White House and the Democrat Congress is not going to do anything to seal the border. It goes against their agenda of open borders and they are ideologues. The White House and this Democrat Congress are obstructing the Federal Officers from doing their job. Last year Rep. Joe Bacca (D) Ca. stopped the inland I.C.E sweeps. America better wake up.

So what ever happened to the news coverage on the AZ shootings?

J C

So here I am thinking about things. Yes I know, probably not the brightest idea, considering I don't have proper adult supervision at the moment. But it is what it is.
In the politics section there seems to be a lot of show me the proof type questions. So I thought I'd come up with one of my own. The latest shooter in AZ seems to have been deemed mentally unstable by those that would distance his actions from legal gun ownership. Seems reasonable considering he looks a little off. But are looks alone qualification enough to make that assumption. Of course there are his past actions and YouTube posts that would seem to validate the mentally unstable stance. But even those by themselves aren't proof positive that he wasn't working with a full deck on the day of the shooting. Of course there are the Dr. Phil's of the world that after the fact make a diagnosis. But they've never actually sat down and talked to the guy. So I can only summate that they are basing their diagnosis on hearsay evidence at best.
Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to validate his actions in any way. He's murderer point blank as far as I'm concerned. My issue is that he legally bought a gun and then used it against innocent people. The gun advocates would have us believe it was because he's crazy. But in his past and to date there hasn't been one  mental health care worker that's actually sat down with him. That's come out and conclusively stated that he is. We merely assume he is because of his past acts and how he looks today. I think his demeanor is a ruse. Used to ensure that he's placed in protective custody for his safety. After all criminals too have a sense of right and wrong and their justice system behind concrete walls is swift and unwavering.
What say ye?

Answer
the conservatives shutdown the story
because what happened in AZ is the result of many years
of extreme right wing fear tactics and manipulated political propaganda

however the last news I hear
was the FBI interrogated 300 people

I will speculated there is an organizations behind the shooter
and since I live in Arizona the first thing come to my mind
is Nazi movement of Tucson Arizona

well I guess we need to buy more guns

What are some good books and websites that can help one go from being a "tech-dinosaur" to being "tech-savvy"?

Ninjamaste

Rome was not built in a day, but it is nice a have starting point.
Thank you for your time.

Answer
(~Specifics at the bottom~)

In agreement with some of the previous answers. Books go out of date very quickly - So I wouldn't spend time and money for YOUR particular purpose. Web sites tend to be field specific and don't necessarily provide a broad enough overview. The few that cover multiple technologies on the other hand can only give you a limited glimpse of "all" of it.

So what's the answer? A good mix of it all (except maybe the books ... for now). Personally I like following tech news. I click on links and follow the trail. Pick up on some words/jargon/hot-phrases and then I Google them and WikiPedia them. My country's big News websites all have articles grouped. One of the groups usually is something called "Science and technology" which covers IT (at least half of it). So, read often, read wide, explore, google, research. You'll pick very quickly. I promise.

Check out:
- Mashable.com
- Linked-In (they have a "News" tab/link with latest intresting stuff)
- Check out Yahoo's main page on news and tech news
- Check out the typical IT and compute questions here
- Check out the News portal "News24.com". - It is the most popular in my country (South Africa) and has a Sci-Tech section down towards the bottom of the page (Try clicking on the header, not only its listed links)
