Why is the Boston Marathon Bombing getting so much news coverage and so memorable?

Adamismyna

I'm not at all trying to downplay the tragedy in Boston. What I am wondering though with regards to news coverage and details about it, "Why is it such a national tragedy" rather then a 1 or 2 day news story. In 1998 there was a school shooting in Oregon where 4 people were killed (2 in the suspect's home and 2 at the school) and it was tragic but a 2 day only news story. The Boston Marathon Tragedy is being covered more like the Oklahoma City Bombing or the Sandy Hook Shooting where many more lives were lost.
So what is it about the Boston Marathon Bombing that has made it such a news story and I presume an historic event that will be a "where were you when you heard about the Boston Marathon Bombing". When the World Trade Center was bombed in 1993 there was another major story two days later that got just as much coverage so even that was a two day news story even though there were updates. the Vanderbilt News Archive showed the Waco Shootout two days after the WTC Bombing got almost just as much coverage. Whereas the West Texas Explosion a day or two after the Boston Bombing got very little coverage due to the Boston Bombing.

Answer
The Boston Marathon is an international sporting event with international participation.
And international media coverage.
The US media knows the eyes of the world are on them to provide information.
That's why it's getting so much coverage.

What's your excuse for not knowing that?

Have they found out who bombed the Boston Marathon?

B

Or have they found clues? I saw a picture right when the bomb happen someone was on the roof of a building. I've been praying all day for these innocent people and I hope they find who did this! And it pisses me off when people are stupid enough to believe its a "conspiracy" thing like grow up from your little middle school faze and know that this is reality! If they added extra stuff please inform me , the only thing I know is that 3 people died (May they Rest in Peace) and 172 people are injured and some lost limbs and are in critical condition.. Please inform me
In anything other than that please, God bless!

Answer
Seeing as you obviously have an internet connection. You will know the answers as quickly as the rest of us. Just do an internet search for "Boston marathon bombing." That will give you all the latest news.

what can i do to be like that?

Answer
I heard she likes seafood. That is healthier than poultry and red meat. Plus her husband is a soccer player and she has 3 boys who she might chase around her huge house. So she burns a lot of calories. She might play sports with her husband. What I mean is that she eats healthy and burns calories just doing stuff around the house or exercising.

I'm a single father of 3 and I'm always looking for ways to make a little extra money. Someone I work with was telling me that I could make some money just by putting some decals on my car. I have looked into it but, I really can't find these business that are willing to pay for advertising. If there someone that can help me with some info on this topic please do. I'm really in need of the extra funds.

Answer
Take care there are a lot of scam offers that turn out to just provide you a list of one time on car advertisers for your $39 fee. Don't pay anything to get into one of these ad programs, because it is virtually 'free' money, there is a much higher demand than available advertisements needing cars.

Count yourself lucky if you can find an advertising company in your community looking to do such advertising, ask anyone you see with these ads how they got them, leave your phone number with a polite note on a parked car like this when you see them, there's a much better chance of you getting the real truth this way.

From a mobile advertising interview: "Our typical campaign lasts three to six months"

These might not be the worst ones.

You have a better chance of picking up a bit of extra money doing freelance work on the internet, check out the job lists on the no cost to register marketplaces like odesk.com, freelancer.com, elance.com, though it's mostly tech work there are simple article writing for web site chores as well.

There are also micro task sites that pay small change for a few minutes work, popular with 3rd world countries, some in the U.S. do them instead of crossword puzzles, the original was created by Amazon, the online store to 'automate' tasks a computer couldn't do, like pick the better of 2 pictures they named mturk.com after the 18th century Mechanical Turk chess playing machine that had a man hidden inside. ShortTask and microworkers have similar micro tasks, some individual jobs are a bit shady, like signing up for product trials, doing surveys, clicking ads you shouldn't, but you get to choose which tasks to perform

The best way to learn a new language?

Daniel S

Hello, I have a serious interest in learning to speak french but it is not offered at my high school. What is the best way (not the fastest) to go about learning this new and beautiful language myself?

Answer
1. Go buy yourself a good French dictionary, grammar guide, and perhaps even a verb book (I recommend the Collins easy learning series http://www.collinslanguage.com/shop/dictionary-language-products.aspx. The Teach Yourself series has a very nice verb book too).

2. Go out and get a self teaching French course book. The Teach Yourself Complete French book with Audio CD included forms part of a very popular series.

3. The Pimsleur French series is great for getting you to speak fast and is purely audio, but is great for boosting confidence. It is very expensive to buy the whole set including 90 lessons, but it can be downloaded illegally from a torrent site such as Pirate Bay. I do not endorse such behavior however. Just keep in mind that to buy the series, you are looking at close to $1000 for the entire set (yes, one thousand, a rip off I know). Visit http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5282766/Pimsleur_learning_French_I__II__and_III

4. Depending on how much time you have available, aim to spend 1-2 hours every day focusing the language. This includes going through the course book, using the dictionary and grammar books as guides. Make sure you are able to hear the language. It is possible to spend so much time reading/writing a language, that you do not gain the ability to grasp it when spoken. French is a language that is not phonetic...what you see written is not how it sounds. You may be able to find an online dictionary that includes correct pronunciation via audio.

5. Once you have a fair grasp of the language, visit www.sharedtalk.com and start chatting to French people. SharedTalk is a language exchange site, and you will be able to chat via text and/or audio with other people in France. This will help a lot in mastering the French language. It will also give you a unique look into some of the more everyday language you may not find in textbooks.

6. Visit http://fsi-language-courses.org/Content.php and take a look at the French student text book which can be downloaded as a PDF. The resources are decades old, but they are thorough and FREE. Audio is included on the site to run side-by-side with the PDF.

7. Get rid of all tension when learning a language. Keep relaxed and don't try too hard to remember things. The less anxiety you have about whether or not you will remember something, the more likely you will remember it. When speaking to people in French, don't worry to much about making mistakes. If you make mistakes, so what? And I can tell you from experience, the more you worry, the more mistakes you are going to make. Don't worry about not understanding everything, especially initially. Try to derive the meaning of things from context. Too many students (including myself) will hear a word, not know its meaning, start pondering its meaning, and thereafter lose track of the rest of the conversation.

8. Once you get a fairly good grasp of the language, start attempting to read French news articles, watch French films/news, French music etc. This will help you with pronunciation, and you will also get a better ear for the language. It will help with your ability to understand in the future.

10. Don't get suck into buying 'too many' course books or software programs. I actually have the A+ French Language Learning Software Program by Transparent Languages. It's good because its cheap, and its a relatively good supplement to your other learning guides. Despite being cheap, it has some useful and fun things such as a means of testing pronunciation, and also learning games such as crosswords etc.

10. Start learning vocabulary around the home. Get some of those yellow stick tags and write down the words of certain objects in the home in French. For example, write down "réfrigérateur" and stick it on the fridge. You won't be able to help learning these words quickly.

11. I used to take my little pocket dictionary 'everywhere'. Nowadays, with a smart phone, when you see something and think 'I wonder how to say THAT in French', just search for the word online. This will help build up a good vocabulary base. Do exercise caution when using a dictionary in this way though. Certain words in English may have multiple equivalents in French with completely different meanings, so make sure you get the right meaning.

Can somebody please explain what is really going on in the Middle East?

After 9/11 happened we invaded Afghanistan and Iraq to supposedly go after terrorists. Turns out Iraq never had WMDs and wasnt really much of a threat. Now we are apparently arming the very same terrorists to overthrow the Libyan and Syrian governments. Doesnt this essentially prove that 9/11 was an inside job and these wars were planned a long time before 9/11. Do these countries really pose a threat to us? I am confused about what is really going on and how it is all connected. There is obviously a ton of propaganda coming from both sides but cant tell what is truth and what is lies.

Answer
You are absolutely correct. Let's review 9/11 then if you can watch ALL of the Aaron Russo interview (down below) if you have time. Please watch this first video linked here. Itâs only one minute. Youâre going to be impressed. This is a local news video of a witness named Kenny Johannemann testifying to explosions that happened in the basement of one of the WTC towers. While he is testifying you still see both of the twin towers burning behind him in the background. This was live footage and it's only ONE minute long. Go ahead and watch this here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEuzU3LMgCA

Those explosions were from charges that were set up to weaken the structure preparatory to pulling the tower. You didnât see this on TV. Does that prick your interest?

Now look at this. Barry Jennings was another witness that got stuck in Building Seven during 9/11. Building Seven fell later that same day but was NEVER hit by a jet. Watch his account here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PbbZE7c3a8Q

Again, the explosions he talked about were from charges that were set up to weaken the structure preparatory to pulling down this building. Again, you didn't see Barryâs testimony on TV.

Hereâs some different evidence. Steve Jones, a nuclear physicist, obtained WTC dust samples from the collapsed WTC towers and analyzed it. He reported his detailed findings here in Boston:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=1957490867030316250&ei=JspdSaLNBZa4qAObztThDw&q=steve+jones+boston

Those âred chipsâ he talked about werenât the smoking gun they were THE GUN. See the article here:

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Scientists_find_active_superthermite_in_WTC_0404.html

Click here for his actual peer-reviewed paper::

http://www.bentham.org/open/tocpj/articles/V002/7TOCPJ.htm?TOCPJ/2009/00000002/00000001/7TOCPJ.SGM

Now get a load of this:

The BBC reported the collapse of the Solomon Building (Building Seven) 20 minutes BEFORE it actually collapsed. Watch that here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlL6ewlW6oc

How did the BBC know in advance that Building Seven would collapse? The fact that it was announced in advance is strong support that the flow of information on this tragedy was being controlled.

Were the people at the BBC the only people privy to this information? Probably not. Larry Silverstein was the leaseholder of Building Seven. In a 2002 PBS documentary he talked about how he discussed the Building Seven situation with the fire department and how the decision was made by that department to "pull" it. Well, there is one problem with his testimony that you may want to consider. It takes about a week to rig a building with explosives before you pull it. So are buildings constructed with built-in explosives just in case they need to be blown up in a hurry? Building Seven went down that same day. Whoops! Watch Larry's testimony from the PBS documentary here in this short clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3E-26oVIIs

Incidentally, luckily for Larry, he insured his property in the nick of time just six months before September 11th! It was a sweet deal. So who orchestrated this terrorist event anyway? They had to get past the FBI and CIA and prepare at least three buildings for demolition as well as direct the activities of men with box cutters (if they even existed). Itâs clear from the evidence presented here so far that at least some of the media was in on this. What else could explain the BBC blunder? They had to control the information to those of us who might not like the idea that a few thousand people had to be killed in order to fulfill some kind of agenda. Whatâs in it for these people that were âin the know?â

Aaron Russo was a famous movie producer who became best friends with one of the Rockefeller family members (Remember âThe Roseâ and "Trading Places" starring Eddie Murphy?). This is the same Rockefeller family that is a large shareholder of the Federal Reserve Bank -- a private company that loans money to our government and contributes to our huge national debt. You see the name âFederal Reserveâ at the top the dollar bill. Yes, we're talking about THAT Bank! Anyway, the upshot of this friendship was that in the year 2000 (11 months before 9/11) Aaron Russo learned from his Rockefeller buddy that there was going to be an "event". He was told that out of this event the U.S. would go into Afghanistan and look for Bin Laden in Caves and then the U.S. would go into Iraq. His fascinating testimony about this "event" starts at 26:45 here in this interview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGAaPjqdbgQ

Now see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZEvA8BCoBw

Here's a sideline tidbit about us allying with Al-Qaeda (Start at 26:01):

What do you think about the bombs planted on the George Washington Bridge on 9/11?

madi_sangr

what do you make of this? why did it disappear from the news? what does it mean about our government? what does it mean about our relationship with Isreal?

Answer
You have asked a few different questions here but they all pertain to the manipulation of public perception. As you can see from previous answers, peoples memories have been updated with propaganda via the mainstream news.

Ultimately my thoughts about reports of bombs planted on the George Washington Bridge is immaterial. The truth is what the majority says it is. In today's world a minority uses social engineering to create manufactured consent, Subsequently the perception of common knowledge is being introduced by agendaists.

To better understand the public thought one needs to study, group think and cognitive dissonance or compartmentalized thinking. We then must look into media consolidation and the complex web of mediation. Going back to 1915 we can pinpoint the start of American media manipulation by special interest groups.

A group of bankers got into politics, used their money and connections and now nearly one hundred years later those same families and organizations have gained elaborate controls over the distribution of information. They serve as board members in several different organizations but the most well known maybe the The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Answer
Save your breath trying to reason with democrats. Common sense tells everyone but liberals and democrats that ALL human predators dearly hope their targets are unarmed, whether the predator is a home invader, Stalin or Hitler:
-Thomas Jefferson, "Commonplace Book," 1774-1776: ââLaws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man."

Even pacifists like Mahatma Gandhi "got it," saying: "Among the many misdeeds of British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest." An Autobiography, pg 446.

But liberals and democrats always religiously cling to their dogmatic faith that âmore guns leads to more crimeâ no matter how much evidence you shove in their face, including:

-9/27/01 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/156671⦠are deeply rooted within Swiss culture but the gun crime rate is so low that statistics are not even kept"; âIn addition to the government-provided arms, there are few restrictions on buying weapons.â

-1/15/03 http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/26568⦠BBC: "âIf guns are outlawed only outlaws will have gunsâ" may prove prophetic. Gun crime in the UK is soaring even though it has the strictest gun control laws of any democracy.â
Nine years later: 12/17/12 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-⦠UKâs violent crime rate per 100,000 people is 2,034; USâs is 466.

2/2/11 Daily Telegraph:
-âAs of this month, some 40 ships are in their hands and more than 800 crew held captive in these seas south of the Gulf of Aden.
-âThe safest ships of all are flying the Russian flag: armed guards aboard them simply blow pirate boats out of the water and leave any survivors to drown. Attacks on Russian vessels have abruptly ceased.â (Do you think thereâs a message there, one that most liberals or democrats seem capable of comprehending?)

-7/25/12 http://articles.nydailynews.com/2012-07-⦠1950 all but one mass-murders in the U. S. where more than three people died were committed in gun-free zones. The Gun-Free Schools Zone Act was passed in 1990.

-9/25/12 http://www.ft.com/cms/s/2/5c1b6a72-c5eb-â¦
âBut almost 30 years after the law [which mandates that all households own at least one firearm for self-protection] was passed, it is still in place and still popular, not least because Kennesawâs crime rate has remained disproportionately low, even as the townâs population swelled from 5,000 in 1982 to almost 35,000 now. According to the latest FBI statistics, Kennesaw recorded 31 violent crimes â mainly robberies and aggravated assaults â during 2008. In other similar-sized local towns the figures were much higher â 127 in Dalton and 188 in Hinesville. For property crimes â largely burglaries and thefts â Kennesaw recorded 555 while Dalton had 1,124 and Hinesville 1,802.â

-11/23/12 http://www.timesdispatch.com/news/local/⦠2006-2011 gun purchases in Virginia increased 73%. During the same period gun-related crimes fell 24%.

-1/6/13 http://www.forbes.com/sites/larrybell/20â¦According to Bureau of Justice Statistics, the firearm crime rate dropped from 6 victims per 1,000 residents in 1994 to 1.4 victims per 1,000 residents in 2009. This has occurred as more and more citizens have armed themselves under right-to-carry State laws. While major crimes show continuing decline in those States, this phenomenon parallels a major crime rise in heavily gun-controlled cities.

-U. S. Department of Justice http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/pdf/vdhb.pdf: 3.7 million household burglaries occurred each year on average from 2003 to 2007; a household member was present in roughly 1 million burglaries and became victims of violent crimes in 266,560 burglaries. [meaning the police didnât show up in time]

When seconds count the police are only minutes away.
-----
As to the democrat mantra, âCall 911â:

-In Warren v. District of Columbia (1981), the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled, âpolice personnel and the government employing them are not generally liable to victims of criminal acts for failure to provide adequate police protection . . . . [A] government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular citizen.â In Bowers v. DeVito (1982), the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled âTHERE IS NO CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT TO BE PROTECTED BY THE STATE AGAINST BEING MURDERED BY A CRIMINALS OR MADMEN.â

How can we be more informed about government?

dandaman

Thoughtful answers only please. I just find it outrageous that most of the people I know that consider themselves liberal can't distinguish fact from fiction. I find that many liberals, not all, are caught up in the popular hate-bush end the Iraq war that bush started because he wanted to get oil hearsay.

It's so bad I know people that reference "Fahrenheit 9/11" as as if it were credible research. Bias is bias and liberal bias is just as bad as conservative bias. Before anyone says it, ok, Fox News does have lean conservative but then is CNN free from liberal bias.

Answer
You have to expand your informational resources, move away from mainstream media. There is a wealth of information on the internet; search for information rather than waiting for a media outlet to give it to you. Most of the sources media outlets use are posted on official government websites. As for biased problem, I usually just make sure to balance out the perspectives, so don't just focus on liberal sites, but also conservative and independants as well.

For foreign issues find local papers (but beware these also have a local bias) so you can get a different perspective on US issues. If your in college/university, they may offer an electronic journal package. Find some journals that interest you and read up on them.

Anyway the best way to be informed is to be more active in finding out what you want, instead of waiting to be told about it.

What were the main criticisms of mass culture in the 1950's and 60's in Lamen terms?

Answer
Popular culture and the mass media have a symbiotic relationship: each depends on the other in an intimate collaboration."

âK. Turner (1984), p.4

The news media mines the work of scientists and scholars and conveys it to the general public, often emphasizing elements that have inherent appeal or the power to amaze. For instance, giant pandas (a species in remote Chinese woodlands) have become well-known items of popular culture; parasitic worms, though of greater practical importance, have not. Both scholarly facts and news stories get modified through popular transmission, often to the point of outright falsehoods.

Hannah Arendt's 1961 essay "The Crisis in Culture" suggested that a "market-driven media would lead to the displacement of culture by the dictates of entertainment." Susan Sontag argues that in our culture, the most "...intelligible, persuasive values are [increasingly] drawn from the entertainment industries", which is "undermining of standards of seriousness." As a result, "tepid, the glib, and the senselessly cruel" topics are becoming the norm. Some critics argue that popular culture is âdumbing downâ: "newspapers that once ran foreign news now feature celebrity gossip, pictures of scantily dressed young ladies... television has replaced high-quality drama with gardening, cookery, and other âlifestyleâ programmes [and] reality TV and asinine soaps," to the point that people are constantly immersed in trivia about celebrity culture.

In Rosenberg and White's book Mass Culture, MacDonald argues that "Popular culture is a debased, trivial culture that voids both the deep realities (sex, death, failure, tragedy) and also the simple spontaneous pleasures... The masses, debauched by several generations of this sort of thing, in turn come to demand trivial and comfortable cultural products." Van den Haag argues that "all mass media in the end alienate people from personal experience and though appearing to offset it, intensify their moral isolation from each other, from the reality and from themselves."

Critics have lamented the "replacement of high art and authentic folk culture by tasteless industrialised artefacts produced on a mass scale in order to satisfy the lowest common denominator." This "mass culture emerged after the Second World War and have led to the concentration of mass-culture power in ever larger global media conglomerates." The popular press decreased the amount of news or information and replaced it with entertainment or titillation that reinforces "fears, prejudice, scapegoating processes, paranoia, and aggression."

Critics of television and film have argued that the quality of TV output has been diluted as stations pursue ratings by focusing on the "glitzy, the superficial, and the popular". In film, "Hollywood culture and values" are increasingly dominating film production in other countries. Hollywood films have changed from creating formulaic films which emphasize "shock-value and superficial thrill[s]" and the use of special effects, with themes that focus on the "basic instincts of aggression, revenge, violence, [and] greed." The plots "often seem simplistic, a standardized template taken from the shelf, and dialogue is minimal." The "characters are shallow and unconvincing, the dialogue is also simple, unreal, and badly constructed."

What are some things to argue over?

Me and my friend are texting and suddenly got bored. We love to debate about anything and we test each others knowledge on certain things (harry potter, batman trivia, skyrim, and pirates of the caribbean) We are so bored right now and don't know what to argue about now. Do y'all have any ideas?

Aren't they going down the wrong path again with giving these Sandy Hook kids psychartic evaluations?

Insallah

Meaning wasn't the problem with Adam Lanza the medication that these psychology doctors prescribe? Well, I've read somewhere that these kids will be give evaluations and later on in life medication as well to help them cope. Now if one of them snaps in their 20's, whose fault is it?

At any rate, isn't giving these kids drugs the worst thing for them?

Answer
Of course your'e correct. These giant pharma companies exploit the most vulnerable people in society. I think you've seen the phrase "never let a tragedy go to waste" in the news regarding this story recently. In the 90's, Pfizer flew doctors to Nigeria during a meningitis outbreak to do illegal clinical trials on unsuspecting children, numerous of whom died or suffered permanent damage. they gave some kids their new anti-biotic they wanted approval for in correct dosages and then others too little of the anti-biotic already being used to prove their drug was superior.

NAMI, which gets most of it's funding from pharmaceutical companies got busy setting up "mental health emergency rooms" for those affected by the oil spill and demanded that BP pay millions for it.

Lanza's medical and prescription records should be readily available by now, and Lanza is deceased so there is no reason to keep them private. Since they are not public at this point, the powers that be are definitely hiding them.

Why are you so obsessed with celebrities?

celebrity gossip questions

celebrity gossip questions image

Lisa D. Ea

It's been the number one people care about since forever. Celebrity gossip. I honestly think celebrities are the worst people to look up to because they have more money than anyone can dream on and they spend it on overpriced clothing instead of feeding the starving children around the world or funding it in the research for cancer. A lot of people would rather forget about their own lives and just chat all day about the latest in People Magazine. I don't get it. I like to be an interesting person and have fun with my OWN life!!! Not waste my life memorizing every detail of these spoiled idiots!

Answer
Im not obsessed with celebrities. But the question is, why are you in the celebs section if you hate celebrities so much? Hmmmm...

why are so many people worried about others body image?

feck you

this question has always bothered me.

lately, a lot of celebrity gossip is swarming around jessica simpson and her gaining some weight.

it just seems that so many people in this world [most] are so concerned with others weight. too skinny, too fat. ugly pretty. always finding someone to put others down and complain.

regardless of what you find attractive, why does so many people have to worry about others. just let them be, what they want to be. you know?

Answer
i agree. the media is so stupid. people shouldn't be so focused on what someone looks like, and scrutinize everything they do. Fist off she is not even fat, she's healthy. Secondly who gives ashit what she looks like? it's not like its your body. Thirdly i think people should be more focused on things like starving children rather than making a big deal about how many pounds someone gained. If people think Jessica is fat, we have a problem here.

What online broking website is good to start off with for a beginner investor?

James

I want to invest 10,000 but want a online brokerage with low commission. How do i know which online brokerage is for me? Do i compare websites in order to find which is best for me?

Answer
All major brokerage firms provide their clients with on-line services, including trading platforms, latest market & financial news and research.

Customer need to select the site that is best for them. Traders have requirements in a site, while investors have other requirements.

Although most sites are geared to general securities and commodities, however customers may have special needs for the types of products they trade, and the markets in which they trade. For example I use Fidelity for investing. Scottrade for equities trading and ThinkorSwim for option trading

It seems that the most popular firms for on-line investing/trading all of which provide excellent platforms and services are; Scottrade; Chas.Schwab; TDAmeritrade; Fidelity; E-Trade and Thinkorswim. In your situation, you may be best served if you select Scottrade or Ameritrade

How to handle reputation problem?

celebrity gossip 1998 image

Anne

Long story...I'll be choppy to make it go fast. Son's school looking for place for grad dance (he's 13). Thought the found good restaurant/we are encouraged to go check it out. I go, friendly to owners ask details, they start to get salesy on me. I am not the one to handle details and tell them so. Our party is 60 ppl they want at least 160 to 200 to rent that room. I was personable, compliment them on establishment, we shake hands, I leave. School principal calls me in five days later, tells me I messed up entire event, harassed owner, told him he had drunkards in his bar that would bother our kids, etc. and they wanted nothing to do with our school or event. I never said any of this at all. She went on to call to try to make up with owner, he rants and raves about me, three teachers go with her to make amends for things I never said or did. I find out from a different source that has nothing to do with the school that he was offered large wedding party so he dumped our 60 person group and blamed it on me, saying I was rude and I wasn't...he used me as escape clause. Principal does not know this...threatens me that all parents will be furious with me and hate me for being rude to the guy (she believes him). Says she and the group of teachers will keep their mouths shut for my sake and if word gets out about me being rude (wasn't...remember, owner lied to get bigger party and blame on me) it would be my fault. She lectures me on my behavior and how I need to change my life etc when I was nothing but friendly and professional to these owners when I was there. I have been involved in school since 1998 and my son is about to graduate. I have many friends there (teachers I have known forever). One of the culprit women in group has biggest mouth in school and she will not keep it quiet. What do I do to defend myself and my reputation? This is all lies. Looked up restaurant reviews for this owner and people have posted what he is really like...horrible person. My son leaves in a few months but in the meantime I have to spend large amounts of time with these people at end of year events and then after graduation, see them in town. I was advised to go above principal's head and report for how she treated me. But sometimes you can look like you are complaining or explaining so much, that you look guilty instead. How do I deal with these four jerky women who believe lies about me and have the potential to make the rest of the school hate me forever? Do I tell them source's story about choosing larger banquet and dumping ours? Not sure what else to do. I AM SO MAD. This is stupid, I know. Too long a story to fully explain.

Answer
You ignore it!!

" Rumors are just Rumors". Everyone is entitled to an opinion, nothing can change the way a person thinks or acts.

You could press charges against them for harassment, trying to ruin your reputation. However! A star is a star. They're a public speaker, and a celebrity. If this is that kind of reputation! People put them self out there, so.. there fore you will be known for what you set yourself out to be.

So.. the best thing to do is ignore it, be kind. When others hate on you, spread gossip just take it as " celebrity gossip', it not being real. The only person who would know the truth are your closets friends, yourself.

You see even the paparazzi aren't that bad. They don't spread serious malicious gossip to the press, just remember! If you're a innocent person, and a good person. " What goes around comes around". If you do harmful, nasty things to an innocent person. Be prepared for others to do something nasty to you.

You should always treat others with respect. The paparazzi don't crack awful, nasty remarks. They only do it to people who act stupid, do stupid things. Like Brittney spears. Now.. if Brittney didn't act crazy, did stupid things. And kept cool, not reacted to her problems. I suppose the Paparazzi wouldn't be making fun of her. The reason they were making fun of her is because.. she lost self control, was making a fool out of herself.

Instead of learning from her mistake, trying to fix it. She ruined her own reputation due to her stupidity. She lost fans, people still care about her. She's still a good person but made stupid choices in the past. She ruined her own reputation. But when you go out.. trying to destroy someones reputation, they're good people. Be prepared to be consider a "HATER", be known as some psycho who's Nasty, talking garbage out of the mouth!

So.. let them run there mouth, be nasty. The only person that is making them self look bad is them self. Let them self destruct them self! Don't go crazy, self destruct. that's what they want you to do!

Dr. HOUSE

It seems for the welfare of the rest of the world INCLUDING China that no one country is safe to me! With this latest London airport issue is it time to put a stop to this? Time for the major powers to make a decision? The BIG decision? Its obvious that Iran, Syria, Libya, Cuba, North Korea, and Sudan arent capable of policing their countries! I feel for the innocents but lets get real here! For those of you who havent heard the latest, watch the news before you post! There is a very high possibility that these idiots could destroy all humanity with chemicals! I say put them out of our misery and divy up the leftovers!
Apparently 006 hasnt watched the news....well when your laying on the ground and choking to death with your beloved children maybe you will change your mind?
That goes for question boy too!
Call me terrored! Not terrorist!
You people who make these stupid comments need to sit down with your photo album and take a good look at pics of loved ones, children and grandchildren!
20 planes filled with deadly chemicals could very easily destroy 75 percent of the population here in America!
To question boy again, category A chemicals alone could easily destroy half the world over in a matter of weeks! Are you that naive to think they wanted to blow the planes up to merely kill the people on them?
The plan was to blow them up in mid air! Use some common sense!
In my opinion, to kill a couple million innocent victims to save 600 billion others is a matter of mathematics! Those of you who feel any differently are the people who WILL kill the world off while thinking that this isnt going to happen! One simple gallon of a class "A" bio weapon in an airplane blown up in the dkies over a large populated city could easily destroy all of mankind in a matter of weeks! It is YOUR idiocy that will be the death of us all!

Answer
Of course not!! NO ONE is safe from terrorists!! Not one soul...and if there is ANYONE out there that believes otherwise...you are deluding yourself.

Answer
People tie the Arab spring to things: do not like, they fear, or they have interest in. Arab spring is where normal Arab people rebelled against corruption, discrimination, opportunistic, living under slavery of dictators and their families and relatives. Arab spring has nothing to do with the outside world or others outside the Arab states except oppositions living in exile/s. The Arab spring has nothing to do with religions and religious issues. Arabs, for the first time, were able through the web such as facebook and Twitter to organize large demonstrations against Dictators.
Google: The Syrian Revolution (English) | Facebook - (Includes massacreâs photos)

⢠First : (TUNISIA)
Arab Spring started in Tunisia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mohamed_Bouazizi
Google: mohamed bouazizi

⢠Last : (SYRIA)
Because of the extreme fear and intimidation Syrians lived with for 42 years. Under the same illegal, racial, criminal, most ugly regime in the world. The last Arab state that joined the Arab spring was Syria.
The last uprising against this regime was in the 1982. Where the last Illegal president Hafez Assad and his brother killed 40.000 Syrians to appease them and destroyed the city of Hamah.

Google : Hamah city,

The current uprising started In the Syrian city of Daraâa on the border with Jordan. Where some kids, influenced by the TVâs news of the Arab spring in other Arab states, wrote things on a wall where the kids were forcefully taken from their parents, imprisoned, tortured, their nails were taken of, and at the beginning refused to free them under any circumstances. As a result their parents rebelled and some of them were shot died by the regime. This resulted the uprising to start and escalate in many other areas of Syria.
For many months, the regime as used to in the last 42 years, used extreme force, torture, and direct killing against peaceful protestors and accused them of all kind of bad accusations and telling the world that they have been fighting terrorists. The same way did in the last 42 years of tutoring under the lie that they were fighting Israel and America. Anybody opposed that lie was taken, tortured, considered traitor and executed. They banned the international media from entering Syria and converted it into a large prison. All that resulted in the escape of soldiers with their arms from the army and established small armed groups to protect civilians. Later, armed struggle against the regime started after months of daily killing of civilians and no help of any kind from outside Syria.

Now over 30.000 were killed, 100s of thousands in prisons, women have been raped by the regime, Kids and babies have been slaughtered, millions fled the country, cities have been destroyed by most sophisticated arms. The Syrian regime even, have been bullying, harassing, and threatening Syrians and/or others around the world who opposed. Unfortunately, still there is nobody really helping to stop the massacres until now.

Al-Baâath party has 2 branches, one ruling Syria under Al-Assad and the other was ruling Iraq under Saddam Husain with the same ideology and ideas.

The Syrian story started with the father (Hafez Assad) who came from the poor Alawis village (Qardaha) on the Syrian coast. He wanted to study medicine but he couldnât because he was too poor. He went to the military school and later he and his colleagues in Al-Baâath party illegally and forcefully overthrew the government and took over the power in Syria. Then, Assad imprisoned those colleagues until they died in prisons and controlled Syria alone with his family and made Syria the only Apartheid Arab state. Alawis from Qardaha and other Alawis villages invaded the Syrian cities like Locusts and controlled all kind of high positions in Syria. The way they speak has a tune and some special words and this distinguished them. Syrians feared them to death whenever they are because they know that they are above the law. Directly after Hafez Assad passed away, the constitution was altered and his son Bashar inherited illegally the presidency of Syria and the regime remained the same. Now, Al-Assad family and cousins and relatives control absolutely everything in Syria, and they became one of the richest worldwide and that is one reason why they do not want to leave power.
The other reason is that they are Alawis, a religious group who follow the Shia (Iran) in Islam; and that why Iran is unconditionally supporting them. Iran has been helping the regime by influencing Russia and ch

How much is a coin the size of a quarter with two angels with halos around their heads on both sides?

Q. It appears to be gold. How much is it worth if it is gold? Who will buy it? I heard it's a French Angel. an someone appraise how much an authentic French Angel is worth?

Answer
In addition to its outstanding beauty and value, the French Angel Coin brings a bit of mystery and magic to the world of numismatics. The coinâs designer, Augustine Dupré, claimed that the coinâs angel image served as a protective force, and the French Angel came to gain world renown as an emblem of luck.

Dupréâs First Lucky Angel

In 1792, King Louis XVI appointed Dupré to design new French coinage. Dupré used his obsession with guardian angels to inspire his design. Coins with Dupréâs exquisite angel design entered circulation the same year. On the coinâs reverse, an angel on a pedestal is inscribing a document, generally accepted to be the French Constitution. The popular interpretation of Dupréâs design, is that he was suggesting a divinely inspired democracy for France.

King Louis XVI probably saw this design as a threat to his monarchy, especially with the recent crescendo in revolutionary activity. It has also been suggested that Dupré was the member of a revolutionary commune that began in Paris that year. At any rate, Dupré fell out of favor with Louis XVI, and was sentenced to death by the newly-legalized guillotine.

Dupré, however, managed to escape execution. There are several versions of the story, but the most plausible is that he convinced the guard to release him, using an Angel Coin as a bribe. As news of Dupréâs release spread, the angel coin that secured his release gained a reputation as a âlucky angel.â

The Legend Takes Hold

French Angel Coins were minted irregularly throughout the nineteenth century, making them rather common. After their original appearance in 1792, the coin was produced again in 1871. After that, the French Angel was issued intermittently until 1898. The design was also used on coins in 1848 and 1849, and again from 1899 to 1906.

By the middle of the nineteenth century, French captains refused to set sail without a French Angel in their pockets. Napoleon Bonaparte was said to have faithfully carried a French Angel Coin in his pocket. According to folklore, he lost the coin the day before he was defeated at Waterloo.

World War I fighter pilots from France, Britain, and the United States carried the coins into battle with them. This tradition carried on among pilots long into the twentieth century: many US pilots continued to put faith in the coinâs protective powers during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and during Desert Storm. Even the notorious Hermann Goering, head of the German Luftwaffe during World War II, believed so strongly in the power of the French Angel Coins, that he awarded them to German flying aces.

The myth of the French Angel persists today, and many still carry them as talismans of luck and protection. Numismatists also value the coin for their intricate design and value as gold bullion. Undoubtedly the French Angel Coin enjoys a special place in the hearts of believers and collectors alike.

As far as the value I suggest checking these sites for more info:

How much longer before Glenn Beck is dismissed/fired from the Fox propaganda station?

popular news 2012 image

Earl Grey

I hear some insiders of the political campaign organization(aka Fox) are afraid that lunatic Beck will become the "face of fox news" which would lead to the entire organization appearing to be a circus act.

Answer
I think his contract is up in 2012, it was a 5 year-$50 million contract. Apparently he's very popular with the Tea Bag movement. Personally, I can't stand the guy, He didn't even go to college. I wouldn't listen to a 5th grader and I certainly wouldn't listen to Beck. It would be extemely dangerous to make Beck the face of Fox "news" as he is unstable and could relapse back into drugs any time.

Why is the web bot wrong in saying that 2012 is the end of the world?

Q. I mean, I don't believe in the 2012 end of the world, but I've seen internet sites saying that the web bot thinks that 2012 IS the end of the world. I'm just curious on why the web bot is wrong in saying this.

Answer
The web bot or any such algorithm follow the trends of the web. As we know, most things posted anywhere whether is news, radio and even the net is mostly opinionated. Very little is posted to be fact because it only takes one scientifically proven thing to disprove something. Well, thats not exactly true but, once you disproff something then thats mostly the end of it. Wether you choose to keep believing is a different story. Also, determining what is fact and what isn't takes a lot of work and resources. Is just so much easier to blantantly say whatever than prove it. As such most things posted will be baseles oppinions.

So, where am I going with this. Well, if you have a program that looks for trends and the trends are based purely in opinion then how reliable is the information you are getting. Lets say for example that you send your bot program to find the hottest woman in the world. Lets say that right now Megan Fox (just the first name that came to my mind) is very popular and many people write about how hot she is. Base on the number of hits and what it is being said, the bot will determine that Megan Fox is the hottest girl ever in the history of amn kind. Now, is this statement true. No, is a matter of opinion really. For one there are countries that have more access to computers than others. Or that certain people are more in the media or famous than others. How do we know that in some remote village somewhere there exist a woman who is so beutiful the mere look at her makes your head explode. We don't because she is not famous and there fore not on the web and also out of the reach of the bot. I think you can make some prediction using the web base on the popularity ofthings. For example, if there is alot of talk about the iphone then you can predict that it will sell well and it has. It doesn't mean is the best pone although it could very well be.

Here is the thing about the Mayan calendar which is where the myth of 2012 comes from. Yes, the calendar ends in december 2012 but why? Further more Mayans believe in the begining and ending of cycles and a new cycle wil begin past 2010. This is true more or less but the problem is not that. The problem is that we are giving a Judeo-christian interpretation of a Mayan belief system. You see the Mayans as I understand it believed that the the world is cyclical. A cycle ends but another begins. So, the end of the cycle in 2012 to them means the begining of a new one. The Judeo-christian belief is that there is such a thing as the apocalypse. When the apocalypse come that's it, is the end. Game over if you will. If you are a Christian and believe in the apocalypse and then you see the 2012 stuff then you may incorrectly conclude that the world will end in 2012. What it really is is one group of people morphing or shaping another groups pf peoples beliefs to fit their own.

Things like that cannot be picked up by an internet bot because like I said at the begining, most post on the web will be about 2012 being the end of the world. Only a handful of post will be about debunking 2012. If for every 1 debunking post you get 100 that say is true what are you most likely to conclude? Remember that in science, data collection is a small part of the equation. The easy part. Interpreting the data is a completely different animal.

Usually below each news article there is a place for users to respond with comments. Today (3/2/12) I noticed that there are no responses for any of the news articles. Does anyone (including Yahoo) know what happened to the responses?
Who is the judge of what a stupid response is? Free speech is free speech isn't it? So is Yahoo the internet police and have they decided they will ban ALL responses because of the seemingly unwise comments of a few? Whatever happened to "Everyone has a right to their opinion"??

Answer
There is some kind of glitch in the system right now. It happens every once in awhile on Yahoo. Currently there are no comments section on any story in any category on Yahoo. I am sure they are working fervishly to correct the problem. They know better than anyone how popular that feature is!

Can you name this international news website?

I'm trying to find this website/blog that features the most talked about news topics in all the countries in the world at any moment. From what i can recall the website has colorful cells. Each color represents a different country and the size of the cell represents how popular the news/topic is in the country.
if anyone knows what website I'm thinking of, that'd be great!
thanks in advance!

Answer
Is it http://news.alltop.com/? No colorful cells but only site I could think of.

The Iowa Supreme Court issued a unanimous ruling Friday finding that the state's same-sex marriage ban violates the constitutional rights of gay and lesbian couples, making Iowa the third state where gay marriage is legal. Where are we heading now? (besides up)

Answer
It's incredible news that marriage equality is accepted, not just in the Northeast, but in the God-fearing, American Heartland of the Midwest.

That means hearts and minds are being moved nationwide.

There will still be years of work to get same-sex marriage legal all across the country, because there are still folk like the aptly-named user "Gorillawits" who think it is "evil", LOL. But if acceptance can happen in Iowa -- it can and will happen all over the nation.

New Jersey is likely next, New York will follow suit, and the dominoes will start falling in places like Minnesota and Illinois.

EDIT: Wow, I did not realize Vermont was that close also!
