I have the today category on my yahoo page which usually lists several of the latest news stories. Used to be able to hover over them and the top enlarged version would switch as I scanned over the stories. Now I have to click each one individually and go through the whole process of opening new page for each one to see what the story is about.

Answer
Sometimes it gets stuck. Just another Yahoo glitch. I just checked mine, and it's switching on it's own. Either give it some time or reboot. It might need a kick start.

Is anyone worried about an attack from North Korea?

Valerie

I read the latest news concerning North Korea today. They are threatening to wipe the US off the map. Is anyone worried about this? I'm concerned and am not sure what will happen. Hopefully the US and North Korea can form a truce.

Answer
Please pardon me repeating myself, but the message IS important:

As I've indicated in other answers, the reason why Obama is being so cautious is because he knows (for a fact) that North Korea has weaponized biological agents (e.g., enhanced and weaponized smallpox developed by Russia during the Cold War) which would cause a pandemic if released, and he also knows that Kim Jong Il is actually paranoid enough and crazy enough to use these weapons if he believes he's actually threatened with war. And BECAUSE he's paranoid he may come to believe that even if it's not true.

Don't be fooled into thinking that North Korea could not hurt us. The weapons they have (obtained from free agents after the fall of the Soviet Union) could decimate us or much worse. A nuclear bomb could pale in comparison to what an enhanced smallpox outbreak could do. Even those who were vaccinated in the days when people still got the vaccine would likely not even be slightly immune to the modified virus (in fact after so many years they probably wouldn't even be immune to natural smallpox). Natural smallpox has a lethality of around 30% and is extremely contagious. The modified virus is very likely to be much more lethal and also more contagious. Do you know what an outbreak affecting ONLY 10% of our population would do to our society? It would virtually destroy our economy and our infrastructure ... our country would collapse. And that's only if 10% of the population was affected.

For those who don't believe me, simply do a Net search for "smallpox" and "North Korea". Or read the book "Demon In The Freezer" by Richard Preston. You can bet that some of Obama's military and health advisors have read it, and perhaps Obama himself.

If I were Obama I would do precisely what he is doing. But perhaps I might consider ways to destroy the infrastructure of North Korea without it being identified as an attack by the United States. Perhaps he and his top advisors are actually doing so. I'm afraid there are not many options available to him, or us.
