Answer
Hey there. Congrats on your new bub!
It may be hard for some people to give answers to your questions because popularity can depend on what country that person lives in. I, for example, am an Aussie, and my answers may be very different from those of someone in the US, UK, Europe, or South America.
For popular entertainers, you could probably list Lady Gaga pretty safely, though. She's everywhere!
World Leaders: well, the Australian Prime Minister at the moment is Julia Gillard. She is our first female Prime Minister, so that's kind of a history making thing (even though she's hated by just about everyone here!!!)
For best selling authors, you could probably look up the New York Times Bestsellers List, or the equivalent if you're not American.
Popular TV shows in Oz at the moment include Revenge, New Girl and . . . sorry, I don't watch much TV, or much of what's "popular" anyway. I hate reality TV, and that's what we're stuck with a lot at the moment.
For news headlines, you could search the net for major national newspapers in whatever countries you think of and look in their news archives for news stories from last month.
Hope that helps. Good luck with bub, and remember to look after yourself, too. :)

Is there a conspiracy to down play Ron Paul's popularity?
jerome2all
He was 2nd in the Iowa Strong Poll, missed 1st by 200 points.
*should be 'votes' not 'points'.
Answer
Yes.
Case in point (this is the FIRST ARTICLE I FOUND and surprise surprise! It's a perfect example:)

Headline:
"Republicans Perry, Bachmann share stage in Iowa"
Search the body text. Paul's name is not mentioned once.
Paul came in 2nd place with 27.7% (a mere 9/10ths of a percentage point behind Bachmann), and Perry came in 6th with 4.3%
So you tell me? How much more obvious could it get?
....
"He's really not as popular as some of his supporters would like you to believe." Funny, that's not what the DATA says.

Perhaps it is Perry and Romney who are not nearly as popular as the corporate mass media would like you to believe?
