I remember as a kid hearing and reading chain letters and how if you read them you will die and such. Have they always been around sense or is this fad becoming popular again?

Answer
The short answer is that there's never a shortage of newbies to frighten, guilt-trip or otherwise dupe with these chain letters, and unfortunately there are always trolls restarting them again.

They're not just a recent thing, but this junk seems to migrate from platform to platform with each new thing on the net.

When email was all the rage, chain letters spread over it like wild fire.

This article talks about why chain letters are so bad and why they perpetuate. It has a paragraph on the "Facebook is charging/shutting down!" hoaxes, which, most recently was restarted by that false news site Weekly World News, but started out on the net in the 90s as "Hotmail/MSN/aOL is shutting down!"

Then Myspace came along, and the chain letters junked that up.

Example, the Carmen Winstead/Jessica Smith sewer-girl forward-or-die chain letter hoax.

Then Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and even Blackberry Messenger. Facebook is where much of the chain letters that were originally on email, migrated to.

Case in point, Amy Bruce, the sick kid hoax that just keeps cropping up every so often. It went around in email in the late 90s, and took facebook by storm in the fall of 2011.

Why do Democrats think they are helping the poor by support millionaires with wallstreet connections?

The rich vs poor thing seems to be a popular go to argument for Democrats these days. I wonder if they see any irony in supporting a bunch of millionaires and billionaires in that party who take just as much money from corporations and special interests as Republicans. I'm not saying Republicans aren't also rich and well connected but they don't play up this "i wanna help the poor" bit as much as the Democrats do.
