I'm Brazilian and I can sure you that Brazilian culture is very close to US culture. At least, in the big cities. Brazil is a common Western nation, so, the habits are very close.

Unfortunately, foreigners see not much news about Brazil and most information are not good. So, people tends to believe in stereotypes and generalizations. Most believe that Brazil is a poor nation (our GDP of 2 triliom dollars is largest than Canada and Italy) and Brazilians speak spanish...

Im' sure that you and your friends don't imagine that we have US immigrants in Brazil. Confederates iImmigrants of civl war.

Not only teenagers but, adults, children and everybody dress and act just like in the USA, except national differences, of course.

Brazil is a multicultural and multi ethnic nation, just like USA. Most of Brazilian culture is European (holidays, dates, dancing, food, dressing etc.) and African (samba, carnival, some foods, etc).

Big cities are mainly like New York: very diverse with European, African, Arab, Jewish, Asiatic and US habits.
