I think that Mitt is less popular around the world. I'm betting that most of the people around the globe woud support Ron Paul.

What are some popular 18th Century Regions of Paris and London?

Q. I'm doing a research paper over 18th Century Building, Prisons and regions of Paris and London. I'm trying to find some popular places where people would hang out during this time period. So far I have found places like the Bastille, Old Bailey, and Fleet Street.

Any others?

Answer
So far as London is concerned, the 18th century saw the establishment and building of what later became known as the West End. Landed aristocrats and gentry increasingly began to build themselves fashionable town house in the Mayfair area. Many people still lived in the old City of London to the east. The Old Bailey did not exist at the time, the area being occupied by the notorious Newgate prison. Condemned prisoners were taken from there on a two mile journey to the public execution site at Tyburn, now the Marble Arch area. Fleet Street was named for the River Fleet, a tributary of the River Thames which by the 18th century was a foetid ditch. It ran past the Smithfield meat market and the remains of animal carcasses were just tipped into it. The Covent Garden area was not a then a market, other than a flesh market. Fleet Street was not then the home of newspapers, but merely a road leading from the fashionable area around The Strand, to St. Paul's Cathedral. There were open air pleasure grounds at Vauxhall Gardens, south of the Thames and Ranelagh Gardens at Chelsea. Another favourite pastime was to visit and mock the unfortunates in the Bethlem Mental Hospital. Theatres began to spring up, most notably The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.
