Q. Its scary the way people died in terror attacks, the latest being in Mumbai, India. Is their some way to assure the safety of our family and loved ones? Life seems more uncertain than ever now.

Answer
You are right that these are extremely turbulent times. I daily watch the news from around the world and wonder why. I know that there are places where people have major differences and resolving the issues between them are difficult and complex but I can't help but wonder if violence were outlawed a a means of solving issues would it not force people to sit down and peacefully discuss the problems. I often wonder if our leaders truly had as much respect or placed as much value on the weakest, poorest, most vulnerable persons in the countries they represent as they have for themselves would things be different. I know that sounds a bit naive and perhaps it is but I'm sick of seeing innocent people killed, maimed, or living in horrible fear that haven't done a thing but go about trying to live normal lives. After all it is the "leaders" who have the means to be best protected yet they sometimes seem to callously make decisions that place people who have little or no protection at the greatest risk of harm. Perhaps we should designate a desolate place where warring parties can go and fight it out where there are no innocent parties to worry about getting caught in the middle of it. In the meantime I guess all we can do is keep our eyes open and try as best we can if at all possible to remove ourselves from those areas where the tensions are highest.

What is your primary source of information on current events?

Where do you guys get your news from? Where do Americans in general get their information/analysis from? Any statistics/links/data appreciated. Please cite sources.

Do Americans read books by their leading academics on health care, the middle east, US foreign policy, etc.?

or

Do they get their information from TV - i.e. foxnews, cnn, msnbc, etc.?

or

Do they get their information from newspapers?

Where do they primarily get their news from? Where do you get your news from primarily?

Answer
I can not say how Americans get their information/analysis however I can speak about myself (from India).

I claim to be the biggest thinker in the world and I get news from TV on BBC channel. I do not find CNN good.

I also get news from MSNBC online everyday morning.

I get information/analysis from Harward Business site. I get writings directly from Harward academicians and thinkers because we do not have anyone in India.

I read news from the available news paper "The Times of India". I prefer to read 'Times trend' in the middle of the news paper giving details of latest research from Western world.

I rely heavily on western research, ideas and concept because we have mostly self defeating concepts in EAST.

I read books on ideas like Malcolm Gladwell, Friedman etc.

We have privilege to be born in 21st century where we can live a great life if we know to chose.
