most popular news last week image

I'm doing a report about animal behavior and I have to find a recent popular news article that I can summarize. Any really interesting topics you've heard of in the past week or so? The more recent the better.
Answer
Try to research the Ellen Degeneres dog story of the last several days. That will give you some animal behavior news. Dog lovers are animals too you know.

What screenplay genres are selling best as of the last two or three years?
Justin N
I have just written my first screenplay, a horror. I have another idea for a horror, but do not want to write something that will be overlooked because the genre I'm writing in is less popular.
Should I instead write a comedy instead of a horror? My comedy idea is about bumbling thieves (sorry, not telling anymore until it is written and and protected by the WGA).
Please, in your opinion list for me, in best order, of most popular genre to write to the least popular.
Thanks a million : ) !!!!!!!!!!!!

Google ScriptGirl - she has a weekly video that you can see on aintitcool news that reports on what screenplays have recently sold. You can get an idea of trends from that.
Some basics though:
Horror is an easy sell - Film companies like it because its easy and cheap to produce and distribute the movies. They can go to theaters, straight to dvd, or to tv, then dvd. I mean SCIFI has a new horror movie on every week - some they produce from the outset and some that they buy the rights to distribute.
They're also easy to make independently for the same cost-effective reasons.
Comedies - pretty much the same logic applies as with horror movies. cheap and easy to make (most of the time - films like Tropic Thunder tend to be the exception, not the rule).
If you look at the trends - write a darkly, serious superhero movie, and you could probably sell that pretty easily. The problem with that is most companies would rather go with an established character (read: Batman, Spiderman, Wanted) than a hero created for a film (read: Hancock). and those companies will get a little testy if you just go and make a screenplay featuring their characters.
