If I had to rank the issues based on my personal knowledge, I wouldn't say terrorism is as important today as it used to be a few years ago. While it is still an issue for countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan and Nigeria, there is less risk of an actual terrorist attacks on Western countries. This is due to the West stepping up efforts to prevent attacks in their own backyards. There are still reports of planned attacks becoming neutralized, so I'd say their efforts are not in vain.
As to your question, I think the big issues that figure in the news as of late, is as follows:
#1 Iran
The US and its allies are quite concerned about Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. They have imposed more sanctions on Iran a few months ago which has the effect of escalating rhetoric from all sides. The threat of another war in oil producing region does not bode well for the world dependent that runs on oil. If it happens, it would be a different story than Iraq, because, for sure, Iran will put up a fight.
#2 Syria
It's starting to look like civil war and at least a humanitarian disaster. But it has become a divisive issue between the West and China-Russia on the other.
#3 Euro Crisis
The crisis is threatening to wreak havoc on the global economy. Worst-case-scenario: a great recession breaks the dream of united Europe.
#4 China
China is flexing its muscle in resource-rich South China Sea. This has sent countries like Vietnam and the Philippines to form strategic alliance with US to protect their national interests. Reports of growing military spending and accusations of economic manipulation and state-sponsored hacking show how the West has become wary of China's rise.

Mental illness makes people say, do, and believe really stupid, deluded things... This is what leads to the outright slaughter, torture, and expulsion of those that don't believe in EXACTLY what they do. (Regardless of what cult "They" are members of.)
It isn't just what they "Say" in the theocracies, but what they do... It isn't legal to be anything but Muslim in the Islamic Theocracies and it is a CRIME to not be a muslim or to defend a non-muslim being charged with the crime of "Being an Apostate". Muslim Lawyers are stripped of their right to practice law and are often times charged with crimes themselves if they defend a Rape Victim or Apostate.
More Christians, other cult members, and non believers are killed each year in the Islamic Theocracies than were killed on 9/11/2001 yet it is called "Racist" and "Intolerant" to talk about such things...
