i keep hearing stuff about protein and bodybuilders taking it but then again i heard thats how courtney love lost over 50 lbs and actually had to eat cupcakes to gain back 10 pounds cos she was looking so thin. ..........so i just want to loose some weight not build muscle..will it work for me?

Some body builders drink protein shakes IN ADDITION TO their normal BODYBUILDER'S diet to help with muscle gains. I assume you're not a body builder, so don't worry about them.
Unless you're good friends with courtney love and she told you honestly that she had a nutritious, healthy and non-dangerous diet but also drank stuff made for body builders but also lost 50lbs at the same time, then I wouldn't believe what newspapers and magazines gossip about celebrities.
And if she did tell you that, slap her and tell her to lay off the drugs.
Your body needs a certain amount of fuel (food) each day to stay alive and do any exercise/activities that you're involved in. If you eat slightly less than this amount then your body will burn fat to make up the difference. If you eat way less than this amount, you'll go into starvation mode and won't lose anything.
Figure out how many calories you need to eat each day to lose weight, how many extra calories you burn through exercise, and how many calories are in the foods you eat. You can do all of that here:
