Does any one else wonder why the people of Haiti that are not hurt are also not helping the relief workers?

Admittedly all I have to go on is what I see in the news. But standing around singing and praying isn't getting the job done.

Answer
I've seen both photos & short video clips on major online news sites showing what we can only presume to be local people frantically digging thru building rubble from day one.
Those photos only catch a single moment. The clips only capture a few minutes of real time.
For example, a single photo might appear to show five unhurt men just standing there and looking at a collapsed building. The image might appear to show them not helping at all. Perhaps any or all of them may have just spent 6 tiring hours digging and digging to find family members of one of the five and found them dead and they are disheartened for that moment. Or maybe they are waiting for a sixth man to arrive in 10 minutes with 2 shovels. Or maybe they have decided to try standing real still and quiet, listening for a call of help from somewhere deep within the building, any signs of life, so they know where to start digging next.
The point is, we aren't there, and do not truly know the full extent of the help and who is and isn't helping. A handful of images do not and cannot give us or anyone the complete story. In all fairness, we have all taken a snapshot at one point or another, and then realised later that we had to clarify to someone what was going on just before or during or after.
I'm not condemning you for asking, my friend. You are expressing a deep concern for human life. I think we are both wanting to help us all think about this mostly unexpected and obviously tragic event. It is genuinely overwhelming to realise that this destruction took only one minute or less to occur, and it happened within the poorest nation in the western hemisphere.

I saw Haiti on the news and I am concerned. How can I help to give the much needed supplies?

I want to donate some shampoo and a hair brush to Diane Sawyer before it's too late.

Answer
If I knew who Diane Sawyer was, I'd be able to answer this question with a bit of wit, but I've got nothing.
