Who are some young, modern female celebrities who consider themselves feminists or openly support the empowerment of women and are good role models to young girls?
I am thinking along the lines of... Alanis Morrissette, Jewel, Lady Gaga, Pink, Ani Difranco...
It doesn't have to just be musicians - it could be actresses, politicians or someone less well known working for a greater cause?
It is for a Women's Studies assignment and I could really use some ideas. Thanks in advance!

How about a quick look into your own family tree? A lot of us had ancestors who fought hard in the women's movements. Look for the women who won the vote, the women who marched for equal wages, and safe standards. Women who made it legal for a woman to use her own name after marriage, instead of being Mrs Thomas Crely, or something like that. Many women fought at war, rescuing men from the field after injury, or dressing as a man and taking up arms, or riding off in secret to foil enemy plans, or even flying fighter planes during world wars. How about those women who pioneered in dangerous foreign wilderness, or even right here as the first to stand up to the law, and demand divorce, and custody of their children?
How about any of the women on the skydiving fundraiser teams, earning money for cancer research, by jumping out of airplanes, and doing dances together as they plummet to the ground, only to release their pink parachutes?
