I need the most popular political news stories of the day archived for the past few months. Is there a site that provides this? Thanks!
Answer
I think your public library has that information.

How do the police investigate past purchases?
Blonde
There was a popular news story about a guy who killed his pregnant wife, it was a few years ago. The police were able to track specifically where he bought the rope that he used on his wife and im wondering how they managed to do that.
Its not like the rope has a vin number or any other identification. Knowing what I know of business, a company might produce a unique brand of rope which would be identical to all the ropes they sell. But to track an individual package of rope from the thousands they produce?
How do they do this? How could detection be avoided?
Answer
The police find the actual receipt or credit card receipt. They go to the store and try to determine what was purchased. Employees of the store might remember what was purchased or not. The UPC code in the store's computer system will tell the police what item that is on the receipt.
With your rope example, the police caught a good break and knew what to do with it.
Now if you intend to use a rope to murder someone, then you might want to shop lift it. You could steal it from a neighbor's garage. You might even find it laying on the road. You could buy it for cash at a swap meet. But you do risk having witnesses see you buy the rope.
