Customer need to select the site that is best for them. Traders have requirements in a site, while investors have other requirements.

Although most sites are geared to general securities and commodities, however customers may have special needs for the types of products they trade, and the markets in which they trade. For example I use Fidelity for investing. Scottrade for equities trading and ThinkorSwim for option trading

It seems that the most popular firms for on-line investing/trading all of which provide excellent platforms and services are; Scottrade; Chas.Schwab; TDAmeritrade; Fidelity; E-Trade and Thinkorswim. In your situation, you may be best served if you select Scottrade or Ameritrade

I'd like to know when televised news became prevalent and any important time periods where the news popularity increased dramatically on tv. Thanks!

News programs were big back in the 1950s, & not just news reports, but also programs that expanded on news stories & explained the backgrounds of things going on. Walter Cronkite was one guy who had a role in TV news way back.

News on television was taken more seriously in its early days by more networks - none of the blatant lies and biases between left & right like today. One big network exec during the early '60s, I think, defended his nightly news program against criticism that it made no money for the network. He claimed the news is the news - he had the popular variety & comedy shows to make the money, but he wasn't going to screw with the news to 'make' it more 'popular.'

The Nixon/Kennedy debates & the popular Kennedy "Camelot" presidency made news more widely watched. It also helped start the "image is everything" marketing of politicians era, where people vote more according to how a candidate looks & comes across on screen than what they've done or stand for.

The Vietnam War & the large amount of on-site film coverage really brought the US audiences into watching the news, as did the wave of cultural protests & conflict of the 1960s.

(I'm not saying network news had no slant - they all had some sort of slant, like the tacit agreement not to publicize presidential affairs, etc)
