I think I have a pretty cool idea for a comic strip, but before I get all worked up about it, I just want to see if the money is even worth it.
Thanks for all your help!!!
Answer
They don't, typically, get a salary. Their work is usually distributed by a syndicate, such as King Features. The syndicate will sell and distribute it to as many papers as want to buy it.
The more papers that carry it, and, the greater the circulation of those papers, the more the artist gets paid.
Not all comic strip artist go through a syndicate. They may sell the strip, directly to the papers. The papers will, of course, only pay what they can afford. A small, local weekly paper will not pay as much as a major metropolitan daily paper. But selling to one paper at a time is time consuming and not very efficiant. That is why syndicates are so popular among this kind of artist.

Which popular comic strip (regularly printed) do you think is the least funny?

I know I'll offend a lot of people, but I almost never think Peanuts is the least bit funny.
Answer
Cathy and Garfield really aren't that funny. You have to take the time that some of these comics were made in for consideration, Peanuts was made in the 40s or 50s and they're about 50/60 years from now and humor was different back then--they didn't have all of the sex comedy and stuff like that really back then, but Peanuts was considered funny then so it WAS. The reason why Peanuts is so famous is pretty much because it was one of the original "funnies" in the newspaper; without it, funnies could've been nonexistent.
